Default SV2 overheating in Sprint2

I have a Sprint2 with stock gearing and I'm running a Castle Creations Sidewinder Evader with a 4200mah Tenergy battery. EDIT: The motor is the CC SV2 6900kv.

I took it to work with me yesterday and during lunch I got it out to do a bit of drifting. Well, after about 5mins (give or take), it seemed to want to shut down and most respond to my TX. I still had steering, but no throttle at all. I pulled the shell off and the motor and ESC were HOT.

I think this may be from the gearing from what I've researched. What can I do to help it out?

I really want to get this running properly so I can reroute the electronics better and add it as a permanent setup.

Help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
