Default Electronics in drifting

Hey I've just got a question regarding the electronics involved in building an RC drift car
I'm looking to get into the hobby and I also do electronics in school which has a major work coming up in which I have to build something involving electronics. I've talked to my teacher and decided on doing this or building an amplifier for a sound system but this is my preferred option.
I just need to know how much electronics work is involved in building an RC car. Is it just plug and play or do I have to build circuits and solder etc. In order to do this for my project I'll need to be doing more involved work then simply plugging components together.
Another option if it is plug and play is to wire up LEDs and other things to 'modify' the car.
Thankyou

the electronics i n a r/c car are simply plug and play ..... even led kits come plug and play unless you build your own kit .. very simple
