i posted this before, but i'll just copy and paste...
if you want a fully tunable car at a really awesome price, go to www.towerhobbies.com and look for the trinity t-spec. the kit is only 99 dollars, and the kit with a 19t moter and batter is only 130 dollars if i remember correctly. i would recommend buying your stuff from towerhobbies, especially since they have great discounts if you buy a certain amount (its on the front page.. don't miss it!)
now, there are no real "complete" drift kits out there with all the electronics. the only drift kit i can think of is yokomo's drift kit, but stay away from those, because they are overpriced in my opinion. if you do get a 4wd car though, you have to do some things to complete your kita nd get sideways. here they are;
to complete a kit
- motor (the trinity pk2 is a poopular one among drifters... the one included in the tspec kit with the motor will also work)
- esc (any electronic speed control will work, good brands include lrp and novak)
- radio equipment (transmitter, receiver, servoes.. they are usually included in a compete package...look for futaba, hitec, or airtronics)
- a body if the kit does not include one.. get a 190 mm body and paint for it (pactra spray cans are good) this is where you have LOTS of chioces from lots of of manuacturers.. hpi makes an m3 that you are interested in, just make sure its the 190 mm version so that it fits on your electric car
- battery (any brand is fine... look for stick packs, as they are the cheapest epic's 3000 mah packs are less than 20 dollars, so those are a good deal)
- battery charger - just look for a simple charger, not an expensive one
to get drifting
- abs/pvc tires
-wheels to mount them on
there are plenty of tutorials on how to make your own drift tires, as no manufacturer makes drift tires except yokomo. stay away from yokomo, because they are pricey and wear fast.
now, if you want a "complete setup" or an rtr instead of a kit as the one i mentioned above, i recommend the associated tc3 rtr. all you need to do then is get yourself a set of drift tires. again, you can make these tires yourself, just check the forums for tutorials on how to make them. the associated tc3 is available on www.towerhobbies.com don't forget the discounts on the front page!!
well, thats all i can think of now. happy drifting!

some people have tried nitro... but in my opinion, the nitros are too heavy, and there is a significant lack in low end torque when it comes to nitro. electric is much more clean, and alot cheaper, trust me on that.
if you still really want to go nitro, the associatated n-tc3 is good, as well as the hpi rs4 3.. both are shaft drive, which is a benifit in drifting as opposed to belt drives. they both come rtr (ready to run) at a decent price.. definetly les than 400 dollars
