it is really a preference. i own a yokoma and a nitro 4tec drifter and they are about the same. i like the nitro better for myself just because the smoke and the noise to me are just awesome plus i am able to drift at about 25 to 40 mphs with my nitro (its set up for a bigger course) yeah it is harder to control because how quick a motor can rev in a nitro with no traction. but after a days worth of practice you should get the hang out of it just remeber you don't always have to have the gas going. my electric i can control better in a tighter spot but the difference is not that big just the power is a little more linear not to mention that my electric is just set up to be a drifter. but with my 4tec it just has sway bars and new bellcrank bearings. (good point on the overheating easily solved with a mutant head now i can not get my car to reach over 200 but it also winter so i think it will do great in the summer.) plus get a big motor saver so the car can breath. in my 4 tec i can easily take 200 foot sweep at about 30 mphs which really looks awesome. i am a fan of both but i enjoy nitro more myself because of the realistic features. but it all comes down to opinon plus try finding an electric motor with enough torque and spped to make you drift at about 30 mphs without spending 400 dollars and then another 200 dollars and a battery pack that will actually power it for a decent amount of time. so it is really more on what you want to do. to me if you were going to get a nitro drifter i would go with the tc3 in my own opinion low cg on that car plus a wider wheel base but my 4 tec works great too.

just saw a video on the hpi d spec drift kit and i didn't like it to much to me it really doesn't seem like drifting but it is also a small course plus it could be the weak hpi motor but if anyone has this kit let me know i want to know how good or bad it is.

imo i dont think its worth it. nitro?? yea its not worth it. you buy 150 worth of equiptment but the tires need to be replaces after a couple of weeks or runs. and with yokomo drift tires and ball bearing on a nitro tc3 it woould work fine. egnine doesnt really need to be centered

i think the yokoma is a begginer not because it is not good i think it is one of the best drifters out there so it makes it really easy to drift. i love mine. yeah i hate that hpi d1 drifter my first rc car was cen ct4s and with the stock rtr tires it did the same thing i don't really think of it as drifting but it is a small course and the hpi motor is pretty low outputi made my own drifting tires out of pvc and rubber they work really well for me i have small strips of rubber close to the ouside edge and inside. i shaved them down so they just protrude a little plus i made groves in the pvc with a dremel for the rubber to set inside. (tires are hard to cut lol) it works more like an electric drifter plus my 4 tec has one ways stock so i get some traction unlike just bare pvc but not to much either. i also use bare pvc's just have to set the throttle trim down and get good.

well i vote nitro. while electric is nice, nitro sounds the part and the exhaust coming out is awesome (i have rear exhaust). plus the fact that when you run out of gas, you just pop some more in and you're ready to rip in a minute.
the mini cooper is my nitro drifter using a pretty stock colt mini (RS4). the electric is a mazda 6 with HPI chassis. both have hot rims and abs tires.

Just an observation, I too run a 1/8 4wd nitro buggy. Nothin beats the sound of that screamin 30% nitro engine. Unless you boys got magic batteries, don't you have to recharge your rx packs? Where can I get one of those?

someone said somethin about 45 minute battery runtimes? im using 1900mah batteries cos they're cheap.. (im sort of new to rc).. and yeh.. i get around 10 minutes out of them? hobby shops say the 3000mah batteries only last an extra couple of minutes? what batteries would anyone recommend? ive got tt01 with rs540.. help me please! thanks
