I drift with a xxx-s and haven't had any trouble with belts
Those belts are pretty bullet proof

I drift an MR-4TC BD and even though it has an open drivetrain, I've never snapped a belt. I've also drifted on some of the worst surfaces.

your could take some thin cardboard shape it so that it can protect your belt then put velcro on it to secure the removable "sheild" over your belt

Would that help?

There's far more wear & tear when you use rc cars for their intended purpose - grip racing

lol but which diffs seem to hold up better for drifting, the ball diffs in belt drives or the cup-style gear diffs of shaft drift?

Yeah the removable shield thing is a good idea. I took a an Arizona Iced Tea plastic gallon jug(its a heavy plastic) and cut the side out to fit the side of my SFGP. The shield protects the pullies very well infact. Just use some servo tape of something, and stick it on the side.

The ball diff by it's very design can take a hit fairly innocuously as the drive rings just skip momentarily, whereas geared diffs can (and do) strip gears

TC4 most certainly doesn't have a geared diff dude - ball diff all the way, Associated only do balldiffs, they won more Worlds than anyone else so it must work

As With all Belt Drives.. The Chances of Snapping a Belt are always there..
If you Drift a belt Drive like your supposed to then you should be snapping Belts on a Regular basis..

The TA-05 is so smooth to drift with and its a great racer..

As Far as Drifting goes, a Locked Planatary diff seems to last longer then the Ball Diffs...

Regular Racing, then the Ball has the advantage but in drift, the locked Geared diff seems to be the winner..

It really depends on RPM's and how long you drift for..

I have never used a Ball Diff in Drift so I cant give a personal reference only those of the people I have drifted with..

I've used balldiffs and geared diffs - and I don't like geared diffs, too much wear & tear for my liking

With a 17T, I would go a set of Yokomo Drift radials or ABS as tape wont last that long with a 17T
