Groovy Drift are well know, Like the SG Drifters..
Each place around the world has their great drift teams there are tonnes of talented Drift teams
Groovy Drifts are very neat and very clean and Constantly sideways
Notice,, the Drifts are smooth and not blazingly quick... no need for speed..

I'd love the long drifts those guys can maintain. Its something I still havent figured out. I just cant sustain the long arc like they do.

Yeah its almost like their on ice .... I know alot of the groovy drift guys use yokomo chasis's but do you think those are Yokomo drift tires or ABS? coz if those are Yoks then I wanna know how the hell they get them to slide so smoothly on what looks like nothing more than asphalt.

They're all Yok drift tires. Groovy Drift is sponsored by Yokomo so most (if not all) of their chassis and parts are Yokomo. And it's hard (not impossible) to get long drifts like that on ABS/PVC. ON the Yok radials, to do long arches like that isn't hard at all...especially on concrete. Actually, it's quite simple. The smootheness will take some time, but it's still pretty easy on those tires. Even with the bottom of the line Yok chassis (the GD ironically), car control is very easy and fluent.

Actualy I'd have to disagree with you there. I think its easier on ABS to get those long smooth drifts. I know for myself anyway that as soon as stuck rims with ABS onto my Yok chasis, it was alot easier to get a nice sustained drift happening. I always find that the rubber sides of the Yok tires grip at unpredicatable times and screw up a nice drift. I currently have 2 sets of Yok tires just sitting in my tool box because I just dont like them much. They come in handy for REALLY smooth surfaces like in the warehouse at my work but thats about the only time I prefer them.

Oookay. Well, you're welcome to your opinion. However, general consensus is that the Yok tires are better for any type of drifting whether it be angle or distance. But, to each his own. However, the GD series are on concrete and they all use Yok tires. In my personal experience, Yok work best for anything. I haven't tried the HPI drift spec tires yet so I won't comment on those. But between yok and homemade, Yok work better for me. That being said, I haven't used Yok tires in almost 7 months cuz they're expensive and on the surfaces I drift on, they'd wear out to quickly. I will probably pull them out for video shoot purposes because they allow much more stability and control and want a video to look a certain way. However, for my every day drifting, I also use ABS pipe.

I have to Agree with flOPPsy
I have Tried all sorts of Tyres From Drift Radials to Dual rings and Single rings and The Black Polypipe and ABS Still offer the Best smoothness.
I think the Secret maybe in the 35T Drift Motors that Yokomo's had.. lots of Torque but not lots of RPM.

I've tried the Yok single and double ring tires, PVC, Poly Pipe, HPI Stage D drift tires and Electrical Tape and out of all those Poly Pipe would have to be my favourite in terms of maintaining an angle.
Hmmmmm a high torque motor you think Magnat. Might pick one up while I'm in Singapore next week. Should be able to find some good prices over there.

i dont mean to sound conceited or anything but me personally...i think its easy to maintain that "SMOOTH" drift effect that you guys are talking about using the pvc tires. I have no problem getting that "smooth" drift. If i had an opportunity to drift with those guys in the video...i would take it in a heart beat and show them that i dont need any kind of yokomos on the "feet" of my car....although...i would like to try them out and experience the "yokomo effect"...

Those guys run ABS too. However, that video is an event in the events you have to run Yok tires..at least teh GD series..cuz yok is their sponsor. and i still like yok over abs. I just don't use'em.

Not to bag on GroovyDrift or anything, but its been the guys from Team Arai that have been winning the GroovyDrift meets. The overall winner, Rob Cho, is from Drift Angle, but he normally practices at Arai Drift Land with Team Arai. People who practice regularly at Arai Drift Land are the ones who have been rocking the GroovyDrift Drift Series.
Now, this may all change this year seeing that speedtechrc has a regular rc drift practice session going on now. Its all about practice and setup, guys. I'll take a guy who knows his TT-01 in and out over a noob with a LCG DriftMaster or some other expensive chassis.
GroovyDrift, to give credit where credit is due, has done an amazing job in promoting rc drifting and running the GroovyDrift drift series.
