Just dropping in to say hello. I recently picked up a Tamiya TT-01D. Its my first r/c car. Today I bought a Futaba 2PL-FM radio and a 3300Mah battery with quick charger.
I plan on assembling it tonight and I might have a few questions.
I already built myself a simple handle for my camcorder to help get it low to the ground to follow the action.
Pics and video should be up by tomorrow.

already ran into a snag. I forgot to buy a servo and I am missing a very small part from one of the bags. In the mean time I will get the body ready and assemble as much of the chassis as I can without that part.

I got the servo and found the missing part so I was able to get it up and running today.
I went to a huge parking lot at a nearby high school for its maiden voyage. It did well considering nothing was dialed in. I used a digital caliper to set the tolerances when I was assembling the adjustable suspension bits but I'm sure I can get it dialed in to slide better.
The most surprising thing was the battery and charger. I bought a 3300Mah battery and quick charger from Radio Shack. The battery was $24.99 and the charger was $40. The charger stopped charging after 10 mins and I thought it was broken or just a POS. That battery lasted over 40 mins. With that kind of charge time/ play time I can get away with 2 batteries. I can have one charging in the car via a power inverter while I am using the other.
Next up will be to apply some decals and figure something out for tires. The stock tires are hard but I was not able to get a nice long drift going with them.

Its a Subaru WRX body. I took it easy on the decals so it looks more like a street car than a WRC car. I painted it metallic red.
I'll get some pics up later.
I'll look into those HPI tires. Thanks for the tip.

Usually when your shooting a metallic paint you use a darker base coat. Since you paint the inside of the shell you can't do that unless you do the base coat on top and I wasn't too worried about it. The only downfall besides it the obvious is that when your out in the sun it makes the car look pink.

I could. Red would be a better choice though. Either way, I will eventually destroy the shell so I don't want to put any more effort into it.

Today I went to the park down the street to practice drifting in the tennis courts. The local Highschool lacrosse team was at the park practicing. As soon as I started warming the car up with a few laps I got a funny comment. "Isn't that guy a little old to be playing with that?"
I thought that was rather amusing. I wish I had $300 to buy a car like this when I was a kid. LOL
I'm 29 but I look closer to 39 so that doesn't help much.
I did manage to beat the hell out of the car and it is holding up very well. I managed to flip it over and it eventually landed on the wheels.
I hit the fence head on and the car pushed itself halfway under the chain links. Fun stuff for sure.

I'm not very good so I am not going to take the time to shoot any vids just yet. I really need to get some better tires. I keep reading about the locked rear diff so I am going to give that a try as well.
The funny thing about me r/c drifting is that real drifting does nothing for me. Its a waste of tires and cars IMO. I can appreciate the talent though.
Driving an on road r/c car around a parking lot can get boring pretty fast too. It took a combination of two not so interesting things to make it interesting to me.
