Default Entry Level Drifter Build

I just ordered:

Subaru WRX TT-01 kit
ball bearings
alum drive shaft
metal motor mount
motor heat sink
These wheels and tires http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...Z0&FVPROFIL=++

I already have a GP3300 6 cell battery pack and peak charger and Spektrum DX3 radio system with a couple servos.

With the setup I have, should i be able to do some alright drifting? The only piece i wasn't sure about was the motor. I'm interested in being able to use this car with a normal driving and drifting, any ideas of a motor that would be good performance for drift and grip driving?

Thanks.

I would go for a Trinty Speed Gems Cromoduim(16t Double), Or any other 16t double,

Its good for those tires,

other then that ur set-up looks perfect for Good driftin not Ok driftin!,

The stock sliver can motor will be fine for drifting and those tyres will help too if you change your motor you will have to upgrade your ESC too (unless you have already) costing more so no need really for drifting as for running it around you will find the stock motor slow []

Not brushless, with a TT-01 ur carzy!,

Its an Overkill Face it!,

The silver can is fine with PVC and a 16/15t for hard rubbers!

I´m an entry level drifter too, and I´ve just purchased a Novak XRS esc, and Team Orion Method R V2 19x2 motor, and the same hop-ups as you have on my TT-01R. And don´t waste your money in those drift tires, just put PVC on your wheels.

That´s a GREAT combo for drifting for a very good price

imho its hard to hold long slides with the tamiya drift tires. Your better off with some ABS.

u can get away with a 19t on grippier tyres wioth the standard tamiya esc, if u get abs u can push it to 16t.

more and more i'm interested in drifting on rubber tires...

Would this do the trick?

Trinity SpeedGems Pro Amber 17T Double Motor

Novak XRS Reversible Sport ESC

Trinity 6C 4200 Stick Pack Zapped Sport

Or should i find a 7c battery pack instead?

The advantage that rubber has on ABS is slightly more control on concrete. However, it also has an inflated price. And anyone familiar with it will tell you that it last about .. that long. You may get about 3 weeks of running out of it IF you don't do a LOT of driving. With practice, you can get ABS to react the same way with a 19t. And, I've seen it last forever; maybe even longer.
Also, if you want to do some grip driving, I'd get foam for carpet and regular radials for concrete. Carpet and rubber haven't seemed to mesh well (in my opinion).
g/l on all that.

So I've got my setup... i'm using a Trinity 15x2 speed gems motor on stock TT-01 gearing with the Tamiya drift tires on asphalt... I've got the tamiya CVA oil filled shocks with the rear on medium springs and the front with soft springs, ball bearings, metal motor mount, motor heat sing, adjustable tie rods, novak XRS esc, alum prop shaft.

I'm still sort of tuning it but i'm having a slight problem with understeer at higher speeds... at lower speeds you can use the throttle to break the rear end loose but at higher speeds the engine doesn't have the power to break the rear lose... i want to be able to use weight transfer to fix the situation where letting off the throttle or tapping the break allow the front end to grip and start to bring the rear around... I'm very new to this and I can tell i have alot to learn about car setup.

Any ideas/tips?
