Right then I have locked out my diffs , got a big fcuk off battery , some brand new ansmann drift wheels and tyres and it slides like its on ice .
My question is , with drifting its not about speed its going slow and smooth ? I try fast drifts they look good but there is no way I could go round things !
Sorry if its so obvious but only just started watching comp videos properly and this is what i make of it
cheers

you right mate its not about pure speed its about control and style [8D]
keep praticing i know when you start to learn to drift it drives you mad lol
keep praticing your throttle control learning how your car handles and the bite point and you will be drifting sidewayz in no time, everyone picks it up in there own time stick at it cos once youve nailed it your style of drifting will follow,i love watching mates drift because everyone has there own little styles, remember its ALL about throttle control stick with it bro [8D]

Practice.
Practice and then when you think you have it.. Practice some more..
Your right, there is Technical Drift and Broad Drift. All take time to master.
If it slides like it is on Ice then your going good.. the less grip, the more attention you have to pay to braking and turning inputs..
Find some Coke bottles and fill them up half way with Water (lid on), place them about 2 Metres apart, then practice drift figure 8's keeping the nose of the car facing the Bottles as much as possible..
change direction of your figure 8 so you learn to drift in both directions..
Then to start Broad Drifting, Change from a figure 8 to an Oval.. Try and keep the nose of the car pointing towards the bottle as much as you can without spinning..
These help you develope the much needed car control.. You learn to pulse your throttle and your steering inputs to make the car do what you want it to do...

It's quite incredible to see drifters use a circuit (i.e. proper R/C track) for the first time. Most are unfamilar with trying to get the nose of the car to hit apexes whilst drifting within track lane boundaries and find it hard to start with, however by the end of the day all make a noticeable improvement and remark on how much their drifting has come on as a result.
I realise you live in Staffordshire and treks to Colchester or Snetterton are around 3hr drives (M6 >> A14/A12) but if you could make time to pop along to one of the drift meetings I'm sure you'd appreciate the help and assistance we can all give.
Just remember though, if you decide to do so make sure you've got the car prepped well as breakages can be annoying after a drive like that.
