Default Different Wheels F/R?

Hey guys. I currently have a TC4 and drift my MK3 Supra also. I recently ordered some new rims and tires for the TC4 to help it drift better and tightened up the rear diff some.

The question I have is why don't people do like the real world and run different compound tires front/rear?

IE. Rubber HPI x patterns in the front, ABS in the rear? Would there be any gain from doing this or not? Has any one done this yet? Would I burn up parts faster? (and if so what ones?)

Lets hear from you guys....

Default RE: Different Wheels F/R?

The reasons i can see would be.

1. with grippier tyres on the front the back would probably be to whippy and uncontrolable. I know this because i can't control a fwd rc with abs on the back and grippier tyres on the front it just spins out.

2.with 4wd cars the different compound tyres may also have different profile which means different rolling radius. so say you have hpi x patterns on the front and abs on the back and the front rolling radius is larger than the rear the front will be trying to pull the rear tyres faster than they can go, So this is like slowly pulling the handbrake so the wheels are spinning but slower than the front.
And if the larger rolling radius is the abs on the rear the rear wheels will be trying to push the car fasterthan the x patterns on the front are pulling it and since the x patterns would have more grip the rears will constantly be spining faster than the car is moving.
and if all tyres have grip it will overload the driveline and something will give up.

Dan

p.s you will go through driveline parts quicker if the RR of the front and rear tyres are different

pretty much in the 1:10 drifting you're going to want to have the same compounds all around for the reasons stated above you'll spin.

in 1:1 im assuming different tires are used to help with grip (supras RWD grippier tires in the back to help hookup with the ground)

i think thats it.

just stick with the same compound all around and you'll be happy with results.
