I got my TT-01 and everything I needed for it for $300 canadain shipped. It was the R34 Skyline kit with a Duratrax digital peak charger, 3000mah battery, bearings, Aluminum Driveshaft, and a Futaba Radio system. Everything has been great so far. The kit came with LED lights too.

$300 USD will get you a pretty good car.
XMODS they are really small, they can fit on your palm*, They are fun and all but personally I wouldn't say they are "Hobby Level"
I suggest getting a 1/10th scale car, RTR (Ready-to-Run), If you havn't had much time with RC cars.
But if you have had experience, go with a kit, they are around $100-500
For a radio, go with brands like Airtronics, Associated, Futaba, Hitec, etc.

i have a e10 and there great drifters out of the box but dont have alot of aftermarket support yet b/c there new. from what ive heard from others is that there not good for upgrades due to the plastic drive shaft. so if you dont want to upgrade the suspenion or motor get the e10 if not id suggest a sprint2. i use my e10 for rallying and i use my sprint2 for drifting

i got a factory team TC4 not yet assemble but i had a RTR TC4 and its pretty good. if you have 300, go with yokomo eventhough there are not many lhs that carry part for it, im a yokomo fan myself but not enough money to get one so i think you could go with the Yuke's GDB.
