I've been into r/c for quite some time, and now I'm interested in drifting. I was wondering if there are any good beginner drifting cars out there for about $200-$300. I'm set on a nitro car, due to the fact that recharging batteries gets annoying.

Dude, I cant see how recharging Batts is any different to Topping up a Nitro Car???

When Drifting on Polypipe, a 4200mah Batt lasts longer then my Mates 200ml Tank..

And if you have a decent Battery Charger and 3 Batts of around 3000mah, You can Drift one, Charge one Cool one and the down time in between is what the Electric Motor needs to cool down with anyway...

My 4200mah Batt Gets me a good 45-50 mins of Constant Drifting.. there is next to no resistance on an Electric Motor when Drifting on Polypipe tyres and when I switch to Street racing I still get 30 mins of Good Speed and Good acceleration on rubber tyres..
and my SJ Swallow Advance Charges at 5amps so my 4200 Batt is peaked in 45mins.. and by then I have already Plugged in my Precharged 4200mah Batt and I am off again...


It is after all up to you, But don't write off electrics due to Battery charging as these days, there is hardly any dis advantage and in RC Drifting , Electrics are far better at Technical Drift then the Nitro's....and with the Bonus of being able to drift indoors at most RC Tracks as I know plenty who wont let Nitro's run... and best of all, there is hardly any Engine tuning involved! an Electric Will run in Warm, Hot or Freezing weather without re-tuning!!

Well I've had electric cars before, and in my expierence you either have to be close to your car to charge it from the battery, or you have to be home to plug it in and charge it. I'm not saying electrics are bad or anything, infact I've heard many opinions that said electrics were better. I only chose nitro because were I drive there is no place to recharge batteries.

Nitro is just not recommended for drifting. If you look at 90% of the drift forums, 95% of the people that drift are using electric. Honestly in all the vids I have watched, I think I have only seen maybe 2 of them had nitro drifters. The way you use the throttle in drifting, you would be sucking down gas like nothing. Also the response to throttle is not instant enough in nitro.

a good charger has AC/DC inputs so u can charge at home and at a REAL car battery...also in my opinion electric is better..i drifted nitro for few months and it was a pain..cars always dirty from oil..alot more time for the nitro engine to cool...now i got a tt01, good batts, and charger and its beast..so much more control of car and alot of fun

the transitions from Left to right are sloppy.... and thats in the hands of a Pro drifter too !

If you do continue to wish to drift, then I too recommend an Electric..
You have to way up running costs VS inconvienience..

1. You have to run the Nitro rich, just to stop it from Blowing the Head.
2. Tyres.. using polypipe tyres on an Electric is fine... but you don't have reverse thrust on a Nitro when things go Bad... you do with an Electric.
so using Polypipe on a Nitro and learning to drift will cost a fortune in repairs..
Nitro's prefer the Hard Compound rubber drift tyres which cost the earth compared to a Metre of Polypipe..
3. Nitro's require tuning... and fuel.. a $20 Battery will out last $20 of Nitro.. so add that to the running costs and drifting an Electric is far more appealing even if you have to walk 200 metres back to the Car to recharge the batts.

Drifting isn't about speed.. Its about loss of Traction with control and kicking that tail out wide and keeping it there.. the Throttle response of a Nitro occurs High up in the rev band, where as an electric has the Power and torque from an instant..making it way easier to learn to drift and giving you a better degree of control...

Consider these options before going nitro for a drifter.. Most guys I know who have had RS4's traded them in on HPI Sprint 2's as they found the Nitro's just cost too much to drift....
