u take the diff and remove one of the three bevel gears in the diff and fit it between the other two. hope that makes sense. what locking the diff does is make the car swing out easier.

I would like to refine what peetie said...
Locking the Rear diff in a TT-01 can be done by cramming blu-tac, paper, Nitro fuel line into the diff gears so they can't spin, or indeed the Reverse Gear method..same effect.
By Locking your diff, now both rear wheels get the same amount of power at the same time, and on PVC or ABS Tyres, this can be effective in kicking the tail out for some nice slides...
It does however ruin the cars turn in ability when using Grip tyres.. So if you street race your TT-01 with friends, this method may not be the best way to go..
Before locking the rear diff... it helps to learn to drift without needing to do it..

The diff transfers power to each wheel depending on what it needs ie while turning if the outside wheel is off the ground the diff should transfer the power to the wheel on the ground like on 4x4s while offroad, while drifting by locking your diff it equals power to the wheels making it easier to drift if that makes sense lol

Totally agree with magnat on this when people first started drifting on pvc/abs locking the rear diff WAS needed to drift better but it seems now everyone wants to lock diffs even on normal drift tyres which you shouldnt need to do,ive tried both sets and the rear diff locked only works well on abs/pvc wheels due to the low tractions involved.
I dont think you really need to lock the rear on rubber drift tyres as its easy enough to drift with those kind of tyres installed, just my opinon on that of course but it seems everyone thinks they need to lock the rear to drift lol
