so I lost the screw to hold my pinion to my motor shaft. and I was wondering what would happen to my speed/acceleration if I went to a lower teeth count on the pinion gear? wouldn't it give faster acceleration?

Your Mesh on the Gearing would have been wrong for it to have stripped..
Just make sure that there is like only a sheet of paper width between the Spur and the pinion..

I don't think it was the meshing of the gears I think it could've been because the spur gear was 3 or 4 years old. It was the stock spur gear. And the lady at my LHS said that the reason it stripped was because I was now starting to drift it harder with lower gearing. I guess with the lower pinion gear tooth count it put more stress on the spur gear.
