Default rwd drifting

Is anyone here skilled enough to drift 2wd? Does anyone drift 2wd with the help of a gyro?

I just think its more "authentic" to drift with rc 2wd if the fullsize is 2wd.

rx7
ae86
silvia
180sx
soarer
supra
etc,etc..

You get the drift.

from what i know most "drift" rides are either stock RWD or converted to be RWD only if the original is 4wd... i mean all skylines and evos and the like are all RWD converted from what i know...

i remember when i used to watch WRC on TV, they'd sometimes show some exhibition stuff for the fans by doing tight turns and sliding around in style. i can tell you this, it looked ALOT like RC drifting. it had that smooth flowing look of RC cars, kinda like seeing a hovercraft move. So it is possible to have awd drifting, but i wouldn't be surprised if the speed was alot different which would make tandem drifting hard.

It sounds like you guys have started talking about full-size rides? If so, it is possible to drift an AWD car. I know you need a lot more horsepower than a RWD car but it is possible. Go on YouTube and look up 'Ken Block Gymkahana' I'm pretty sure his car is AWD.

As for the OP's question about drifting RC as RWD. I've never tried it (on purpose anyway) but the power:weight ratio and weight distribution on our little RCs is so far from scale that it just doesn't really work. For example (I think I did this right) say a 1:1 drifter weighs 2,000 pounds. Shrink that down to 1:10 and it would still weigh 200 pounds.

Yes, I was referring to RC 2wd drifting with the help of a gyro.

I know all rc drift kits are 4wd. But if its possible to drift 2wd by using a gyro, then I'd like to try it.

A 4wd rc RX7 just doesnt do it for me. I'll be drifting for fun, not for competition.

Thanks, I'm not currently in the country. But I'll keep your club in mind for when I return.

Meanwhile, I gotta try to find out if RC 2wd drifting is feasible.

The only way i can think of drifting RWD is by having a perfect 50/50 weight distribution front and rear.
So find a chassis that is split 50/50 is the tricky part [:-]
A gyro would really help or the "D-Box" from hpi (which is a gyro) would really help.

Losi had a chassis called the JRXS i think and the motor was in front of the battery. So using a light weight Lipo would help.

This chassis, Gyro, Lipo and POSSIBLY a tadd of weight added to the front.
Now that i think about it. Its going to be 80% weight distribution, 5% Locked Diff and the other 15% Drift tires and suspension set-up

Thanks for the tips.

I'm just doing this for fun. I don't want to have to spend money on new chassis or complex mods. If it doesn't work then I won't have lost much time or money.

I'm impressed by how much the "dbox" stops the car from swapping ends so I'll probably buy a cheap gyro and see if that works.

i bought a cheap piezo gyro from a chines company. works fine but then theres no skill involved in your drifting... DBOX'S and gyro's are for people who cant drift

Mainly Im just saying If you want to drift a RC car RWD only, you will want to look at weight distribution

That's me to a T. I definitely can't drift 2wd. Nor have I heard of anyone who consistently can. I've been doing a lot of searching on Youtube but with no luck yet. All I found so far was a gyro'd Baja 5B but no video of it actually driving.

If all it takes is a cheap chinese made gyro to help, then that's what I'm gunna do [8D]

I dont know where you guys get info from, to drift you have to lock your diffs and get drift tires, gyros only help maintain the angle it does not drift for you.

its not required to lock your diff's i run an ASSOCIATED TC5 and the diff's arent locked and that and it drifts awesome. i even placed second in my local comp... and with TT01'S you dont have to lock your diff's to drift a tt01 you could take a fully standard TT01 stick drift tyres on it and it would drift

you dont need to lock you difs to drift, it just allows for better angle and more control.Hence why some people lock both, or just the rear, or even none.
second gyros do drift for you they stop the rear end from coming around(which last time i checked is drifting), so all you have to do is mash on the gass and toss the wheel, and she will drift with ease while using the Dbox/Gyro
