Hey everyone
I am new into the RC world and I am starting out with drifting. I have a stock HPI Sprint 2 Drift right now and want to upgrade. What are your suggestions for precedence of mods. If you could give brands and general price range, maybe the function of the mod (if it is not obvious) that would be amazingly helpful! Thanks
Just consider this a blank canvas, how would you paint it as an experienced RC drifter??

Couldn't have asked this question in a better place get yourself a jewelry saw and do this to your front and rear bulkheads this will save you time on repairs and money to.
Front
Rear
Then get yourself a Front One-Way Differential for 38 bucks from hpiracing.com along with a Ball Differential for the rear that part is 20 bucks then the next part that you should get is the Universal Dogbones get two pairs that will cost you 64 bucks plus shipping which is only like 10 dollars and hpi sends their stff out pretty fast i usually get parts in like 3 or 4 days

I have been reading a lot and the mod is to cut down on belts snapping from debree rubbing, correct? Should be easy enough, did you just cut away as is or take it apart to do it?
The other moods sound like a great starting spot as well. Thanks man

boyer215 yeah man you gotta take it apart but at least as you do that you will learn how to take it apart and put it back together and you see that purple thing inside my front bulkhead? well that's what the Front One-Way Differential looks like. My Sprint 2 is almost completly stock other than the front one-way in it and the diff mods i did and this car is a great drifter i have no plans of changing the motor or the shocks the only thing i need are a rear ball differential and the universal dogbones and this chassis will be amazing!
apocalyptical this is to you i think your gearing should be fine i know your using another chassis but were running the same motor in our cars and this motor in my opinion has just the right amount of torque and speed so dont change your gearing just your tires get a full set of of hpiracing T-Drift Compound tires that will cost you about 28 bucks USD but thats whithout shipping im not sure where you live.

Cool an excuse to take it apart right away, I'm down for sure! Any tips for taking it apart, or just strategically rip into it so I know what goes back where. (I work on cars and I am also a F-18 mechanic in the Marine Corps, I am not too worried about being out smarted by the mechanics of an RC car

yes get a strong magnet! and you work on F-18's? lucky..... but that aside this car is designed very well well at least i think so but its designed to have the main parts being able to be taken off without 100% dis-assembly of the car so only take apart what you need to get access to whatever part your working on and you should be good. And if you have any questions at all about this car im sure i can answer them i am very very good at working on this car and one thing to watch out for is the screws when ever you take one out rember what material the part is made out of like if its plastic the screws for those parts have specific thread counts and spacing

18's are a HUGEpain in the ass, I hated working on them. I worked on them for 3 years and now I am an embassy guard which is way better in my eyes lol.
But I will be sure to note which screws came from and go where, as well as get a magnet. I am pretty sure that I will be hitting you up with some more questions in the near future when I actually have some spare time to sit down and dig into the car. Thanks for your help, once again

It changes the way you Drift but the Sprint 2 completly stock to me is awesome ive decided im only going to do stuff to the Suspension and add bling after I get that last two upgrades I actually need which are the Universal Dogbones and a rear Ball Differential the stock motor is great it has just the right amount of torque and it gets going really fast if you need it to so I havent seen the need to change it nor do I really want to this car is really fun and it drives very well and you can do alot to it

I am really anxious to get mine! I ordered it a week ago and I got a tracking number but all it says is shipment was recieved by the post office. It still has to travel all the way from California to Miami and then get on a plane to Venezuela and then get picked up at the airport, sorted through all the other mail, put in my box at the embassy, and THENI can finally get my hands on it. WHATAPAIN!
Thats why Iwant to plan out several mods at once and order them all so I am not waiting on parts for a month with nothing to mod or a broke car sitting there. I am attempting to get a bit of fun and not waist a ton of money

LeadFoot.....Is your rear differential still stock, ot did you tighten it or what?
Im asking, cause mine looks like this.......and its fully locked at the moment......now, i get whiplash on the rear as its trying to pass the nose

The front looks exactly the same but its not fully locked...............should i swap the two around or leave as is?
Oh...By the way....this is a thunder tiger ts-4e....basically the same as a tamiya ta04</p>

Yeah mine is still stock are your tires the same type? I was just messing around with my car and had some hard plastic ones on the rear and some regular rubber tires up front and the same thing was happening maybe something is to tight or something is stuck but if something isn't stuck in there try unlocking your rear differential
TO: boyer215 I hope you ordered a few front and rear belts just in case but make sure where you drive it the surface is prepped like swept that's all you really need to do and try and find somewhere that has floors like a parking garage

I'll be using it on a very large marble porch, and hardwood floors. Rocks won't be an issue here at all. I might have to end up getting softer tires just because my drift surface is slicker than most I imagine, although I have seen a lot of videos of people drifting fine inside on the same surfaces. I just found out yesterday that I will be able to go home for 2 week (FINALLY) so when I am home I will pick up extra belts and try to find the one-way and rear ball diff along with universal dogbones. I am going to really stock up on parts while I am in the beautifully convenient America haha

Yeah.....all four tyres are the same.......they are "Ghost Sliders"....its being locally made here in South Africa by a dude, and they are brilliant. Ill get you the info on them if you want it.
T get back to the diff.......Cant unlock it as its a fully locked differential, but i can swap it with the front one as they are the same size.......but i think ill swap them and see what it does....

Both diffs are ballbearing diffs, just the rear one has been fully locked, and the front hasnt, if i lock both completely, then the drift angle and time improves a bit, but not as much as i want it too.
Any other ideas on what will work????

Get the Front One-Way Differential and install it in the front of your car it works great and put in the rear Ball Differential in the rear go ahead and get the Ball Differential maintenance set for 6 USD and get the Universal Dogbones all three of those parts combined total is 128 Dollars USD plus 10 Dollars USD for shipping within the us other rates I don't know.
