All things about 1/10 Madspeed Drift King
 

This might be the easiest way to follow one make and model.
Mine is a Brushed motor model I was given for Christmas. I have a Bushless Hobbywing motor, ESC and 5000 mah Lipo coming.
This is my first Drift Car so I can't compare it with others. So far it is easy to learn on. I is fairly fast. I was surprised.
My only complaint to date is it has many machine screws that are threaded directly into plastic and have a thread locker on them. When taking a couple of them out, I think the threads came out with them. I have use the next longer machine screw to repair those. I might have to go one diameter larger if it becomes a problem.
My mods to date are:
1) Locked rear differential. Much nicer to drift with.
2) One way front differential. I did not like the feel so I put back the stock one, that feels best to me.
3) Moved the steering arms to the inner holes on the front spindles. This allows the front wheel more turning angle. The tie rods had to be extended and I trimmed a small amount of material from the spindles where they hit the lower control arm.
4) I put a 200 mm Corvette body on this 190 mm chassis.
5) Installed 6 mm off set wheels with 5 degree drift tires to fit the new wider body. I had to trim a little more from the wheel openings to allow for the greater swing radius.
6) I raised the ride height slightly for the rough surfaces I have to run on. The front of the body was catching on cracks.
7) I bought a Thunder AC6 battery charger. Original 2000 mah NiMH batteries last 20 minutes on a charge.
8) Forgot to mention, I bought an inside drivers compartment model, from Sears, that can lightly be seen through the tinted windows.

Forgot to mention I also installed an ESS One+ engine sound system. It gets a lot of attention.

This yellow body is for practice to save the blue one for when I drive better. It is dinged up already.

Not everyone who buys an RC Model enters Competition, no matter what type model it is. Some of us just enjoy the challenge of learning a new Hobby and maybe showing off a little among their friends. I am having a ball in the parking lot, on the tennis and basket ball court. Kids gather around to see what is making a real car sound and sliding sideways. It is a lot of fun.
I am not very good yet but it doesn't matter.

I now have made several mods.
I have a .06 speed servo, a Hobbywing brushless motor and ESC. I have homemade ABS tires that work better than all the new ones I buy. ABS is like PVC but it is black. Hardware stores carry it in 4' lengths that makes dozens of tires for penny's. They also last better. I have modified the front steering to turn a few degrees farther. That combined with the faster steering really helps. This servo also comes back to center better the the stock one. Near perfect every time. My stock steering was too stiff. The plastic linkage was tight on the metal balls. I took them apart and put the Dremel on the metal ball and spun it in the plastic with a little rubbing compound on them. Be careful not to let them get hot. Only spin then a few seconds at a time, until the arm will drop from gravity. Then clean them off and apply a drop of very light oil. It made a huge difference for my car. I love the steering now.
This thing is fast. Too fast for the local drift track but I love big fast circles, sideways then through it the other way for a figure 8.

I hear many people say they cannot get replacement parts or after market upgrade parts for their 1/10 electric Madspeed Driftking.
I hope it is okay to say where I found all the parts I need.
A company on eBay named "China-tools 2009" has every part you ever will need. The Madspeed is made by HSP and the HSP Flying Fish is the same car. Google up the HSP parts list.
It will look just like the exploded view you got with your Madspeed Driftking. Just look for the part number of the piece you are looking for. Type HSP and the part number into the China-tools 2009 store site. It is that simple. I am sure there are other locations to find parts but many that I looked at were out of stock. I have purchased dozens of upgrades now and all were in stock.

I don't compete with my car, I just tear up parking lots.

My mods are completed now.
I have upgraded my suspension with aluminum control arms and steering components. The front arms are HSP that I shortened 7mm each. The rear arms I made from scratch. The steering components were each modified to fit my application. I made a full frame pan to replace the plastic pan. I made the front suspension mount removable for ease of future modifications.
I have a Hobbywing 5.5T EZRun Brushless Motor with a cooling fan. I have a Hobbywing 80a ESC with cooling fan. I installed a Solar High Speed (.06 sec) Servo and modified the geometry of the steering angle for max tuning. I have a locked rear differential and a one way front differential. I am using a Venom 5000ma Lipo. I made my own ABS tires. About 5 sets for $3. They are perfect on smooth surfaces. I have a set of soft grip tires for speed runs. For drifting in parking lots I use a 64/13 gear ratio. For speed runs with grip tires I use 64/27 that gets about 50 mph. The motor gets up to 170 degrees fairly fast. It would be better for me to have a 120a ESC. Get that later. I am good with the drift gears for now. I have a ESS Sound Simulator Box that make it all seem real. I bought a scale driver and interior from Sears, of all places. My car looks just like my real car and it attracts a lot of people when I am out in public especially at the Race Track. The real Race Track parking lots. Everybody loves toys.
