Here are some I made up for my T-Maxx & Savage. I just used PVC since I haven't been able to get any ABS yet. Once I find some I'll swap out the PVC. Still, they turned out pretty good.
It's really pretty funny driving an MT like this. The doughnuts are hilarious.

I wish I could answer you but I don't have experence with how something should drift. I've never driven a drift car before. It slides all over the place, is hard to drive in a straight line and has almost no brakes. Driving it kind of reminds me of the first time I put on ice skates, zero control and all over the place.
Yes, I'm running the 2.5 in it.

I see the tires are black. did you paint or dye them that way.

ABS should be REALLY easy to find, it is, afterall, common SEWER PIPE!

Go to the nearest hardware store and find the plumbing section, that BLACK pipe you see? Its ABS!

Really cheap.

Thats cool i have been looking to do that with my max, but my q"s is I measured the rim of the stock max and its like 3.3 something and could not find any pvc in or around that size. what did you use/do.

PVC is way too hard, try ABS, you'll like it much better as it gives more traction

...better still, get PE ;)

What did you use to cut your ABS with? I have tried a hacksaw terrible cut and I tried a miter box also terrible. Yours look really straight.

Dude you made that pour mt look wimpy. Lol no offense dude but seriously. Hey does abs work better than tape on the tires?

I just tried a pipe cutter makes better cuts that a electric saw. Its really clean.

3/4 taped slicks work great on carpet but ABS/PE is miles better on tarmac

RE: Making drift tires

Look...
I jusy went and got a Tyco RC Drift Kings Car. It is a Orange Silvia and it comes with drifting tyres BUT it only drifts good on REALLY, REALLY smooth cement so you can take it out on Tarmac.
So I went and put on some PVC pipe on the slicks it came with and it works great...
Also this is my first post and my Car i just got.. I have been working it overtime and now it has no acceleration in the front wheels... there fore it continuously spins out {NOT GOOD} now i have to mod it...

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM.. AND IF YOU HAVE PLEASE TELL ME HOW U FIXED IT

P.S:: I AM ONLY 15 PLEASE HELP ME

Dodgybro 12-30-2005 05:39 AM

RE: Making drift tires

I MENT YOU CANT TAKE IT OUT ON TARMAC LOL

dodge - it's hard to tell what is happening to your car. if you're looking to test traction, you can try to put some electrical tape down the center of your pvc pipe just to see if you like it with more traction. it's not a long term solution but PVC is really just that slippery. but it may not be the problem.

you should've been very careful about running your car too hard since it seems like you've increased the diameter of your wheel. the load on the running gear could've be more than it's designed to handle. i think you may have stripped some gears.

these cars are powered by one motor so if the front wheels are spinning out, that is one thing, but if they aren't moving the same speed as the rear wheels, then your running gear is broken and will require fixing.

let us know

RE: Making drift tires

Thanks forstroke but i found out the problem..
Since this is a Tyco, it is very cheap and mostly non-reparable but the one thing that makes the front wheels drive is the gears but it has plastic joins from the axel to the joint to the wheel. The plastic has simply started jumping around on the axel and spins with the wheel.
I put some of my dads super strength glue on [24hrs 2 dry] and it seemed to work [until I took it to the track]. It happened again and my dad fixed it... Sorry it is to hard to explain, You are probably lost alreaddy lol

thanks for the advice :D

No offense, but even the ones that you claim turned out okay still look like crap. Really i mean no offense. But below you will see a wheel and tire set that i made from ABS. Truly i think if you take your time and be precise, you can make a very professional looking drift tire / wheel combo. Without having to pay those high prices for same stuff they sell on those "popular auction sites".
Awesome job, man..

call me crazy put ive got a nitro RC an i put PVC ont he tyre an ran it with no shell (for obvious reasons to those who own nitro cars - its easier to start) while i thought it was fun i also thought this is boring, i might aswell jus drop the front shaft...then i put my shell on an the thing went crazy...i can do sik drifts up my street gutter to gutter, its easy to control ive been thru 5 tanks alredy today...so ye my main question is...do the shells actuali work for aerodynamics???

what i learned in making abs drifting tires is this; if the rim doesn't fit the abs tire you made (if you want to call it a tire) just put the rim in the freezer and the abs tire in some hot water. expansion and contraction of materials helped me fit them on nicely.

lol @ my ntc3, so much power, i can drift with racing foam tires, on smooth netball courts that is lol, hmm abs sounds good, i think pvc will be too too slippery for nitro, .15 engine with a Torque tuned pipe = DRIFTAAA, gone to the hardware store today to get some. got some spare rims i can stuff up, i like mikewoodkozar wheels, very very good looking, job well done.
