PVC vs ABS?

Hey. im gonna be drifting my ta05 w/ a C027on regular asphalt (its very new, and barely anoyne ever drives on it), and i was wondering whether it would be better to use Abs, or PVc for tires? Or does it not make any difference? If there is a differnce between teh two what is it,a nd which one is better for my situation?

RE: PVC vs ABS?

From what I've read on here, PVC is more slippery. I don't have an extra set of rims for drifting so I use that thick hospital tape and it works great. It's tough enough that I can use it on even not so new blacktop roads and parking lots.

You can get into huge slides on PVC but its quite difficult to get your car where you want it due to the lack of grip, ABS offers enuff grip to make drifts controllable and is far better, the best tyres to go drifting on are the yoko single rings but they are fairly pricey and wear out in about 8 hrs or so.

ABS offers the best compromise, cheap and good, enjoy;)

PVC = ICE
ABS = ICE but with traction control

RE: PVC vs ABS?

So basically your saying that for consistant drifts, and having fun ABS is the way to go?

RE: PVC vs ABS?

correct :)

ABS.

Not only does it give a more realistic look to your "drifting" tires, it has more grip than PVC.
PVC is a vinyl type of material; more slippery.
ABS has a compound of rubber in it's formula resulting in more traction when applied to a surface.

RE: PVC vs ABS?

What size Abs pipe do i need to fit the wheels that comew with the ta05?

Tim_B 12-01-2006 05:39 PM

RE: PVC vs ABS?

What size wheels does it say it has in the specs for the vehicle? I would think 2 inch pipe would be what you're needing but someone else would have to verify that.

my CEN CT5 has the same size rims i think. the 2 inches is it. got 10 ft at lowes for like 8.00 or some cheap price. its like 20 sets or more tires at 1 1/8 wide.

Will defo be 2" ABS, RC Rims are all 52mm.

RE: PVC vs ABS?

by 2'' Abs you mean its diameter right? IS there anything i need to know about putting abs on wheels or do you just slip them on, and glue them with CA?

Tim_B 12-01-2006 08:54 PM

RE: PVC vs ABS?

Yeah the 2" is the diameter, Sorry I or no-one else specified that before hand. Also, Magnat has a great tutorial for applying them to rims in a post on here. It should make it easy for you.

It's quite simple.

PVC is softer

ABS is more brittle, therefore it's harder than PVC

Vinyl is even softer than PVC

Jaskel

We use Black Polypipe ( 50mm internal Diametre Irrigation Pipe) Down under..

Has the same Characteristics as PVC, Ultra slippery until the Pipe is Warn in.. Then it is great to drift on..

ABS is damned Expensive and is hard to track down..

In the US, PVC pipe is white and ABS pipe is black.

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene

PolyVinyl Chloride

ABS pipe is found at a plumbing supply house, not at home centers or hardware stores.
