RE: YOKOMO?
^^^ I know who you are........you driftsucky on every other drift sight. Sweeeeeeeet!!:D
I'm RTR on other drift sights, like I said, tamiya is the best to me. I love em'.[8D] |
RE: YOKOMO?
Yokomo was known to be "brokomo" because of a design flaw with their arms. That has since changed. Their arms are alot stronger now. I've had a TC3, DP, SSG and currently still have LCG, Rayspeed, TA05, TA03F. My TC3 broke WAY more than my Yokomo. My Yokomo is way more easier to service than any of the other chassis I've had.
Some of the arguments against Yokomo's chassis are flawed. People say you can't get parts for it and the parts are expensive. The same can be said about the TA03F and people are still buying these chassis like they were God's gift to drift. Personally, I've never had problems getting a hold of parts from either StormerHobbies, YokomoUSA or Ben. If I wanted to, I can easily get parts from Japan. The fact that there's more variety of chassis used in drift competitions isn't testimony against the driftability of Yokomo chassis but rather a testament to an excellent job that rc drift websites like DRCcentral.com have done informing the rc drift hobbyists that Yokomo isn't the only thing out there you can drift. You can drift ANY 4wd chassis as long as you learn throttle control, proper setup and use the right wheels. Saying that Yokomos are harder to come by in drift competitions and therefore they suck is like saying Apple Computers suck because they only have 5% of the PC market. Yokomo isn't the only one to slap on "drift" to old chassis design in order to make money. I admit, I was pretty disappointed in Yokomo when they released the LCG as the "DriftMaster" without even having done any changes to the chassis. Unlike the other companies, Yokomo was FIRST to promote rc drifting and to come out with D1 replicas. Let's see, what other companies have sinned by slapping on the "drift" label in order to make money? Tamiya - TT-01D; HPI - Sprint2 Drift; Losi - New drift chassis (what is it called again?). Not one of these companies has offered any new revolutional chassis designs worth labeling drift specific. I too have seen TC3s drift circles around DPs. Me. I loved my TC3. I shouldn't have sold it but that thing broke too many parts and the drive train was harder to service than the Yokomo drive train. The TC4 is a good chassis. It fixes all the problems that people had with the TC3. Our drift team has a variety of chassis that we drift regularly. We have some SSGs, an LCG, DP, TC4, TC3s, TT-01 and TA05. Each one is comfortable with their setup. But of course, everyone so far who has drifted my dialed in LCG say it's been the best they've drifted so far. ;) But I think that is more because I've worked on it so much rather than it is that much more superior to any other chassis. |
RE: YOKOMO?
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree.
|
RE: YOKOMO?
^^^ Ha overcorse you d, because I do too. Whatever you like is what you going to want.
|
RE: YOKOMO?
well said Aries...
|
RE: YOKOMO?
So from reading all this I've come to the conclusion that whats best is all very subjective and all seems to be hinged off where abouts in the world you happen to actually be. ;)
|
RE: YOKOMO?
Not really. It depends on what brand you like.

i totally agree on that one neon!!!
i think that people said that yokomo breaks a lot it's because they don't know how to drive it!!! i broke my chassis the 3rd time i played with it but i was going sideways at almost 50km . well i repair it and i've been drifting whit it about a year now!!! here's the picture: |
RE: YOKOMO?
i got a tt-01 too and when i race whit my friend, trust me the tt-01 drift well but yokomo there's no chassis that can beat that man,
i 've been doing some races at my local hobbieshop here in canada, and all the guys at the shop have some tamiya kits. i went straight to the 1'st place, first time in that track!!! the guys work there man, they know the place and i'm still number1!!! |
RE: YOKOMO?
but i think that the car doesn't make the driver!!!
the tt-01 it's a great car but i think it's for beginners now you just put a battery in it some drift tires and you're on. yokomo it's for racers i think!!! it's expansive and all got some trouble finding parts but still number1 man!!! |
RE: YOKOMO?
So basically yokomo will get you on the drivers stand, and even make you win? Ha, what a bunch of crap.:D
|
RE: YOKOMO?
Way to take it to the extreme oh disliker of Yokomo. NOBODY said that they're the one all beat all. However, chassis for chassis in a drift competition, Yokomo is top notch. You know it. You may not want to admit it, but you know it. Everyone who drives one won't win. There is no absolute in drifting. You know that too. But, the sarcasm is MUCH appreciated. Keeps the post interesting.

RE: YOKOMO?
Yokomo is top notch???? So just because they come out with a kit that has CF all over it, means that they are better that cars that don't? I still don't see what your saying bro.
|
RE: YOKOMO?
Get the basic TT01 kit along with FM radio system, build it yourself, get some ABS drift tires, and practice with whatever body shell that came with it, when you master the technique, then invest your money on good charger along with few good battery packs like the IB4200, all ball bearings, aluminum driveshaft, maybe a higher torque motor like the PK2K Pro, and whatever body shell you like to replace the beater, that's pretty much all you need. Craps like adjustable suspension is not essential for drifting, the basic suspension setup from TT01 kit works very very well so don't waste your money on drift spec, yojimo or whatever unless you have bunch of money to blow. TT01 is very durable and can take lots of beating without breaking your bank.

RE: YOKOMO?
I'm not talking about their CF kits. I don't even LIKE their carbon fiber kits. Mine is plastic. I'll always go with plastic. Nothing against cf, but I want a car that can withstand some junk and the cf scares me. So, as I said before, base kit vs base kit OUT THE BOX, how is Yokomo NOT top notch?
|
RE: YOKOMO?
I like the CF on my SSG & LCG...
but I also feel ya Neon, on the plastic...for my everyday driver it's "Top Notch" taking most of my abuse. On my competition chassis, the CF gives me that added weight reduction I need, plus I like the low center of gravity chassis only available in CF, and it looks so damn good. Obviously Us "Yokomo Die Hards" are a dying breed...price and availability being a few of the contributing factors NOT quality or upgrade possibility, in the end the only thing thats gonna get you winning on the drivers stand , is your dedication to fine tuning your skills, then the tuning of your chosen chassis to suit your abilities. |
RE: YOKOMO?
+1
And for the record, everyone is a die hard if they like something. I like my Yok. And I'm not apologizing for it just cuz it's expensive. |
RE: YOKOMO?
for the record, I'd buy a yokomo...if they werent so dang expensive! haha
|
RE: YOKOMO?
I think the reason you say its top notch is because it come with drift tires and a sweet looking body. If it came as a regular TC you wouldn't be saying that.[X(]
|
RE: YOKOMO?
Aaaaaaaaaaactually, they don't come with a "sweet body" unless you order it with one. Same goes for the drift tires. AND, both the Sprint2 and TT01D come with "sweet bodies" and "drift tires".
However, if Yokomo cost the same as a TT01, you'd say it was the best around. I mean, I've yet to hear any valid points against Yokomo other than price and availibility. But, you don't like Yokomo, so I don't expect you to agree. It goes with that whole "bias towards what you like/don't like" |
RE: YOKOMO?
Yeah I guess so.:D
|
RE: YOKOMO?
yeah Yokomo's are good. but mine after 2+ years of useage needs a new chassis(i've been very rough with it over the past 2+ years. its hit a few things very hard lol) and two new front turn nuckles. thats it. its amazing quality and like other people have said great customer service. basicly you're paying for QUALITY not quantity
|
RE: YOKOMO?
nice way of putting it (neon guy) if i were yall i'd listen to him he pretty much knows what he's talking about...
|
RE: YOKOMO?
Well he knows about Yokomo......don't know what else......;)
|
RE: YOKOMO?
I actually don't know that much about Yokomo either. Aries and Ben know WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than me.:D
