my friend just bought a MR4TC roller for $43 bucks. only mod is oil shocks. its got bushings and non adjustable links and it owns my fully loaded XXXS. carries much more speed through sweepers and very easy to control. im jealous

the car that i swear by is the hot bodies cyclone and cyclone s. u can get it butt nekked for about 150 or rtr for 270. they use a lot of the old hpi pro 4 parts so most parts are fairly easy to come by

the base drift package does leave you expecting a little more for the price, but once you start upgrading Yokomo has alot to choose from for the serious drifter.

The TT-01 is like a volkswagen, you can beat it all you want and it will keep on drivin. Yokomo drift cars are like Hondas, upgrade it all you want but its still gonna be junk! And always remember... "Your worst day in a Volkswagen is still better than any day in a Honda!"

yes, "Serious drifter" the kind of driver that thinks rc drifting is more than just a locked diff and ABS!
and you (SeanZ0R) can't really be serious if you think that Yokomo's drift package is all they have to offer a "serious" drifter, just look at the LCG or Rayspeed...common sense would lead me to believe that it's Not the weekend drifter buying these high end packages... Plus just look around at ANY of the rc drift specific forums, Every serious team, has their fair share of Yokomo drivers and that is for a reason! Yokomo is quality, and with anything of quality you pay for that BRAND name too.
and for any genius that wants a tt01 over ANY yokomo... Hey, I've got some moon rocks I'd like to give ya a really good deal on!

Hey if you like your Yokomo drift car, Great! More power to you!! But I'm content with my Team Associated FT Tc4, it seems to get the job done... O ya, and my locked Diff and Abs seems to be working out for me also. In my opinion, the Yokomo drift packages are for those that DON'T know how to drift or set up a drift car on their own. But that's just my opinion.
And I'm going to have to agree with Seanzor, they only put "drift package" on their box to make money, just because it comes with a badass drfit body and drift wheels and tires doesn't make it better than any other 4wd onroad car platform...
I've seen a guy drift circles around a fully modded yokomo drift chassis with a team associated Tc3! [X(]

I just think that for what your getting, Yokomo is a tad over priced. The basic drift kit doesnt even ship with bearings or a rear spool which are the first 2 upgrades that you'll need to do. I know the brand new Yok kits are now shipping with both spool and bearings but thats only because Yokomo finaly have to pick up their game as the other manufacturers have started releasing some drift kits of their own which are considerably cheaper for someone starting out.
These days I'm noticing alot more Ta05's (Tamiya), TC04's (Associated) and Mi3's (Schumacher) at the drift meets than Yokomo and when ever you ask someone who had a Yokomo and runs something else now why, they always say the same 2 things " Couldnt get parts and its too expensive".
Also I dont think that comparing a Yok drift kit to a TT01 is a fair comparison since the TT01 is aimed purely at the beginner and doesnt have much adjustability in terms of camber, caster, droop etc which can all be adjusted on a Yok. To me the Yokomo's are aimed more at the person looking to move on from the TT01. Someone who now wants more adjustability and the ability to upgrade parts for performance as their skill grows.
I guess the best way to answer the original question in this thread is to say, Yes, Yokomo are good drifters but then the truth is any 4wd touring chassis can be turned into a good drifter with the right tires and dampers.

It dosent matter what car u drive its how you use it so if you like yokomo then you like yokomo if you like tamiya then you like tamiya but it is up to you to chose which car wanna buy but basically i would just by a TT-01 and slap on one of my favorite Yokomo sponsored shell.Besides there're more things you can do with a TT-01 than a Drift Package (i.e Convert to a rally mode)trust me it dosent even matter by the end of the day something on that Yokomo is gonna break. Most drifters in SoCal drift with Yokomos and I have nothing against them even the Groovy Drift guys drift wid Yokomo but trust me nothing is wrong with drifting with a Yokomo but like I said something by the end of the day in that Yokomo is gonna break.
Trust me TT-01 is more effeicent than Drift Package and don't blame the manufacter if the driveshaft on your Yokomo breaks it was your fault but if you like Yokomo I understand it's okay but after a while you might get bored of your Yokomo, hey even down here Barbadians R/C driver like Yokomos from circuit to drift, but we here at Drift Akademiks would prefer to use a TT01 but right now we are in a developing stage so don't worry. From what I am concerened if you like Yokomo so be it,if you like Tamiya then go with it.Just remember "It dosen't matter what car you drive,it's how you drive it".

Let me lay down some EXPERIENCE with the Yokomo.
a) the "DRIFT PACKAGE" is fine out of the box. You NEED no upgrades to drift nor to drift well?
b) Yokomo is expensive and parts are normally only attained through the internet. Reason being (for the parts) there aren't a lot of LHS's that carry them outside of Japan and Cali, USA. However, their site is easy to navigate through and their customer service is the best in the business. No company comes close to them on that aspect. HPI's sponsors our team and I STILL don't get the great service from them that I get from Yokomo. They're expensive because they're one of the best around. Arguably the best still produced. Yes, there is the TA03F, but as we all know, it has been long since discontinued.
c) Like redeyes said, there's a reason why the best teams in the US AND Japan use a lot of Yokomo products. If we check any of the top teams, you will find Yokomos. That's a FACT! Not to say that there won't be any other car makes, but it's a top competitor and it's that for a reason.
d) any 4wd chassis can drift, tis true. Practice is what makes you good; not the car. However, you take two people given the same skill and same practice time and give one a Yokomo (even the basic drift package) and the other some other chassis (stock, like the DP is), you'll be hard pressed to find a chassis still in production that will beat it.
e) the DP is STOCK!!! It is the BASIC DRIFT PACKAGE OFFERED FROM YOKOMO! Stop comparing it to chassis that come with everything. You're comparing apples to oranges. Compare it with another BONE STOCK BASIC BOTTOM OF THE LINE package, whether it's stamped as "drift" or not, and tell me what chassis will hold a candle to it. I've seen none. I don't know of ANY chassis, "drift" or not, that you can take out of the box, stick in a battery, and drift WELL. There may be one. I haven't driven every chassis. I'm sure a few people will pop up on here praising their UBER MODDED tt01 or tc4 or TA03F or Sprint2 or WHATEVER, but I've yet to see one come out of the box as well as the MR4TC DP.
And for the record, I outdrifted quite a few people with quite a range of cars with a bone stock DP. I had the out-da-box setup for almost 2 years before I swapped out ONE SOLITARY PART! I didn't upgrade because I had to. I opted for a faster motor when our team was going to D1 and I just decided to do a stage1. And I might change back to the softer springs because they're more forgiving on concrete and allow more play on carpet. Also, I'm not exactly sure where this whole "Yokomo's break a lot" came from, but my car has NEVER broken. I dropped some books on it and cracked the CM chassis, if you wanna call that a break. But it was a bookbag full of COLLEGE books, and we all know how heavy those are. And, I've yet to hear of anyone breaking one. Not a ONE. And I can get about 100 guys to collaborate on that.
All that being said, get what you can afford. Yokomo IS expensive and I'll never say it isn't. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who only wants to do this occassionally, by themselves, as a part time hobby. It's a serious car (not that it's the only one) for those who really want to get deep into this. There are PLENTY of capable chassis out there that are less expensive. They may take a little more work to get them to do what you want, but they're out there. I'll personally vouche for the TC4 and the TT01. I had a TC4 and 2 people on our team have TT01's. Matter fact, one of them is the D1 East Coast champ.
Whatever chassis you like most is usually the one you'll vouche for. Very few people will give you an honest opinion on a chassis that they don't like or don't use (as I'm sure my analysis is biased on what I like). I don't like the TA03F because it's discontinued, expensive, belt driven, and better than my fav. But, it IS better than a Yok. But, good luck finding one and parts for it. I really don't like the TT01 either, but it's a great car for only a little bit of $$$.
That's my $0.37

Bahhh yokomo. Personally I think since they put ''Drift Package'' on their box is the reason why people but them. The best drifters are comp. cars. They are the most balanced and you don't have to deal with push from a dang shaft. The more balanced the better.
Neon_guy that's my 0.38 cents.

Everybody has their own opinion. I don't see a lot of "comp cars" at competitions. Not to say that they're not there. I just don't hear of anybody anywhere in America that is really into the sport ever using them. But, I don't know everybody so that could be why.
Again, I like Yok. I'll endorse yok. To me, it's the best. To someone else, it may not be. But beside me just thinking it's the best, there's a lot of people that have been doing this way longer than me and who are way better than me that agree with me. But, to each his/her own.
