Default Rustler 4x4 VXL Spur Gear Issues

I've been having problems with the spur gear stripping out quite often. I know its gonna strip because its plastic, but its stripping about every 10 minutes. I took the gear cover off and watched it while I hit the throttle, and it was throwing little plastic shavings off. What's the problem? Gear mesh? Motor plate/mounting? Clutch too tight?

Sounds like gear mesh is too tight. Supposed to have just a little tick of play in the gears. Just enough to tell it's there.

That's assuming you don't have some big motor on 4s in there.

I just do it by feel but I've been doing this since 88. You can take a strip of paper and pinch it between the gears and tighten the motor while it's in there. Should be close when you spin the paper out.

Better to be a little loose than a little tight.

Default Check All The Way Around

A lot of spur gears are not 100% perfectly round so there may be a high spot...
