RE: the best esc!
Check out the tekin G10+ (or +pro, if you need the small IR diffence).
Its only 80 bucks, but sure as heck doesnt seem like an $80 ESC.
Its relatively easy to program (2 button 4 or 5 led interface), just read the manaul. It should only take a few minutes to setup for the first time, and only a few seconds to adjust.
Seems to be very good quality to me. Ive been runnign my 9x6 with 7 cells on it for a while with no problems. Its thermal protection does kick in after 3/4 a pack though. However my car is set up for speed runs right now, its not set up for normal use. Under nomral use this shouldnt happen, I was running 10+ turn motors on 6 cells with no problems at all.

RE: the best esc!
I got my Super Rooster a few weeks back, and it runs like a dream. Instructions say the lowest turns recommended for paralell wiring is 15t, but ive been running some 13t Havoks just fine. Also says to run adjustable timing motors and set them to 0 degrees, and Havoks are fixed at like 23 degrees timing.
I'd recommend a Novak Super Rooster. They run around $120 new.
I also got a Intellispeed 8t Esc w/ Reverse that works sweet. They're only like $80 and worth every penny.

but i like the Mtroniks (think they go under a different name in USA but they are
100% water proof

mine cost me £35 - $70 and runs <11 turns
and upto 9.6v (prob get another cell in there)
http://www.mtroniks.net/mtroniks_SC_...ubCategoryID=2
or for well cheap and looks ok try this esc

get a LRP SPhere, that way you can bash with brushless and race with brushed. its right around 175, but you wont regret it, you can run ANY motor you want. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJJG0&P=ML

RE: the best esc!
i find it hard not to use tekin gear. i have three tekin speedos that i've had for nearly 8 years now,and i've never had any issues with them. their chargers work pretty well too. i like the feel of tekin speedos over the rest of them out there. tekin's seem to be punchier because of the lower frequency that they operate at.
