brushless question???
I was reading that the novak 4300 is the equivalent to a stock(27t) motor. Does it go any faster than my p2k. I want to be able to bash and race, is the 5800 controllable on a race track? Thanks

RE: brushless question???
I have done some research on this topic also because I am looking at buying one. The 4300 is equivalent more towards a 19t, and a 5800 will get you geared right on 6 cells about 30 mph. It will be very controllable if you have good throttle control and have a good steering servo.

RE: brushless question???
Viper,
I am running both the 4300, and the 5800 in my T3, and my MF1. I have found that I prefer 4300 for racing off-road. Especially if it is a tight, technical track like ours. Our longest straight is only 118', and you have to jump on the brakes hard at the end, because of the 90 degree left hander.
If I had to give an honest assesment of the performance, I'd rate the ss4300 equivelant to a well tuned 19t spec modified. I routinely get 30+mph out of 6 cell practice packs, and have peaked at 33.2mph, with a promatch racing 1.185v pack.
The SS5800 feels more like a 15t double, to a 14t single. Good power, good top speed, but not that much greater. On the GPS, I routinely get 34mph.
On the track, I find the higher RPM of the 5800 difficult to control, especially when traction is poor. On the street it's great, but not all that much faster than the 4300. I keep both, for both trucks, just in case.

RE: brushless question???
The SS5800 has a "sportsman" setup that makes it run like a 4300. No sense getting two, you can just change the profile. Now, if there is a racing legal issue, this may not work. For speed/torque, the 5800 is noticeably superior to the 4300. You should be able to keep either on the track, but you may not reach the top speed of the 5800.

RE: brushless question???
well i have driven my 5.5gtb with only 4 cells and i will have to say it is equivelant to a 19t or a very fast stock... but i havent done an a/b comparison so i cant speak on it..
