Default Increase Speed

I have a Losi XXX-S RTR 2 and I am looking to improve the speed to over 40 mph? Any suggestions on motors, speed controllers, brushless systems that would work with that car? I know of someone that put a 15 turn motor and a new speed controller in it to get to about 60 MPH, but did not find out what kind. Any advice in getting more speed would be appreciated.

60mph with a 15turn motor is impossible. period. if your target is just 35-40mph, you can go with a novak ss5800 for around 160-180$. i recommend the neo/sphere combo [170+80=250$] that will boost your xxx-s near 50-55mph or maybe a bit more [7cells].

Are brushless a pain to install or are they pretty straightforward?

Same thing as installing a brushed motor. The setup on the other hand, I guess that depends on the esc. I know that when I first set up by novak brushless esc I messed up in the setup but it didnt really affect performance so it didnt really matter.

basically they are quite easier than brushed ones! just mount the motor and plug it to the esc. the only part that would need some special care is the instructions regarding the setup programs of the ESC, which you should read carefully to run your system as you wanted to. one last note: water and brushless don`t mix! [but since you will be using it in a touring car, thats not a prob].

If I were to stay with a brush motor, what would one recommend and would I need to change the gearing?

reedy quad magnet will work fine with the stock equipment of the XXX-S. 30-34mph top speed. you can keep the stock gearing, or alter a tooth up or down to gain top speed or acceleration respectively. the best plus of brushless systems is the complete lack of need for maintenance. any brushed motor will require ocassional commutator trueing and new brushes, and no matter what you do -it will retire after 1 or 2 years. maybe 3or4 if you won`t use it regularly.

the neo series of motors are manufactured by reedy. the sphere is an esc that is manufactured by LRP / AE. check the specs at towerhobbies.

if ur on a budget, get the Ti worlds by Assosiated ($$56) and any other esc that can handle 8 turns will do fine for about 35-40 mph
