Not all motors have to be broke in, some already are so read the directions to see. If it does need breaking in connect one or two AA batteries to it and let it run till they go dead. Some guys like to break them in in water but I don't care for that way. No matter how good I clean it it still gets some rust so I like the dry way. After it's done oil it and drive.

A drop of oil in each end, where the shaft comes through. Use a light oil like sewing machine oil or oil made for them.

I use the water method as it only takes like a minute and is easier on the comm, but if you don't race, you don't even really need to break it it. After like a run it'll be broken in, but there'll be a little more wear on the comm. Since you're new, the comm is the place where the brushes touch on the inside of the motor.

tamiyacrawler, why do you run a 27t motor? Is that for racing 'stock' or bashing?

I just bash. I didn't feel like upgrading my esc, so i just got this cheap motor. Then when i did upgade to a 19t, this motor was 10x better, so i'm using this again.

The 27t motor is better than the 19t? That motor must be pretty good.

Make sure you use good brushes and you solder everything on. That makes a big difference, and ya, the 19t was terribly dissapointing, and i now wish i would've returned it and kept my money so now i can fund for a really nice motor.

It was a speed gems acronite, and i'm sure that your 19t's will somoke it. What 19t's have you run, and how would you rate them?I'm looking for a good 19t to buy now.

Back to the topic for a minute.
I understand the battery method for break-in but could someone explain the water method or point me to a link?

You hook the motor up to a battery(usually 4c) and put it under water for up to 5 minutes(less if you have serrated brushes) and after you take it out, it'll be broken in. The water makes it a little easier for the brushes to wear, so they break in quicker.

Really, and that doesn't hurt the motor? I mean usually rc electrics and water don't mix all that well. Also, it seems like clean up and preservation would be a real pain. Does it really improve or increase the motors performance or life?

It jus extends the comm life a little. I've cleaned motors and broken em in like that and they work fine.
