Default Are these Ebay batteries any good?

Here are to really cheap battery packs. Are these good bashing packs for the money? Is the side to side layout better than the end to end layout?

Thanks!

First one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Two-7-2V-3300-mA...QQcmdZViewItem

$24 plus shipping for two batteries.
End to end layout.
Sub C sized cell
3300 mah nimh
matched

Second one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Two-NiMH-7-2V-33...QQcmdZViewItem

$30 plus shipping for two batteries.
also 3300 mah nimh and matched, but in a side to side layout instead of end to end.

Third one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll..._BIN_Stores_IT

$22 plus shipping for two batteries.
3100 mah nimh, in an end to end layout.

I built a nine cell SxS pack out of those powerizer cells. They work great in my helicopter, can't tell any difference between them and the GP3300 pack I use in it.

Don't know how they would do in a car though, for the price you might as well give them a try.

That's great jakjr. Yeah they're so cheap! Is a S by S setup better than end to end? I can't see any reason why it would be.

Is a S by S setup better than end to end?
Generally, yes. But in this case no, the way these particular packs are built the only difference between them is the arrangement of the cells.

Generally a stick (shotgun, end to end, or whatever you want to call it) pack is built with the thin tin-foil looking strips connecting the cells together which are "quad welded" to the cells (better grade stick packs may use copper braid soldered to the cells). Side by side packs are generally built with the much beefier "bars" which are soldered to the cells. Supposedly this setup can flow more current, and do it more efficiently.

Another thing is side by side packs can be used in an equalizer, while stick packs, on the other hand, can not be used with an equalizer.

Basically, the way these packs are built there is no performance difference between the SxS and stick versions, however, as I said the SxS version can be used with an equalizer.

That totally makes sense. THanks for the explanation.

Anyone else used any of these packs?

I have a couple, and they have worked fine for bashing in my Lunchbox. Great run times and they've lasted quite a few runs so far. I haven't use them in my GTB T4 (I have better cells for that beast) but for the Lunchbox, they rock!

I've been thinking about picking up a couple more packs for the 'Box..

I use one it does't have the run times my gp packs do but not to bad for the $.Also the cells are a bit larger than the gp cells i have the stick pack and i ruined the wires because it doesn't really fit in the rustler it fits in the evader bx though. You might want to try the side by side packs.gp 3300 at radio shack are a good buy 24.99.

Ok, good to hear your personal experiences with them.

I would run down to radioshack right now, but i live in Korea and they don't have it here lol.

I bought the 3300 mah s by s pack, I'll write a review of them once they get here.

Hey purple car, You in the service? I've got a real god friend that's in the army and he's been stationed there for like 3 years now.

Hi DaveG, no I'm an English teacher here. There is a big US military base right in the center of Seoul though, called the Yongsan base. It's a nice place to be stationed I think, since Korea is really friendly and pretty similar to North America.

Actually, I've been trying to make a friend there, because I heard they have a dirt RC track. But I can't get in by myself, I need to be a guest of someone. Is your buddy into RC?

No, he's bashed mine some when he's home on leave but that's about it. He's married to a native Korean, she's a naturalized US citizen, and her mother is ill so pretty much all their extra time and $$$ goes to caring for her.

I see. Yeah the military setup is big here, they have their own tv channels, 1 of which I get, and they have really good shows on. I think there are about 20,000 soldiers in Seoul and more in the rest of the country. I hear rumors that they will be pulling out permanently in the next few years. I would think the south Korean army could take care of itself, since it's become a very wealthy country, and since every male must serve two years in the military.

You could try these out. I got four of them and have been using them for a couple of weeks. They seem very nice for the price.

Probably because the only GP's he has are 7 cell Emaxx GP3300 sets which cost three times as much as the cells this thread is about.

True but for bashing, is the negligible difference worth the extra money? If you're racing and you need every edge you can get, yes, but for bashers like me the cheaper the better.

I've heard boomboom has the best gp packs, so if I ever do get a top quality one that's who i'll buy from.

You can tell a huge difference between GP and IB packs compared to sport packs. THey don't have to be pro packs or matched, just a regular one. You would be happier getting a gp or ib pack.

That's good to know, I'll definitely invest in some in the near future.

How much of a difference are we talking? Like approximately how many more mph, how many more minutes of runtime, and is there noticeable acceleration?

I'm kind of cheap so I wasn't thinking of getting any, but sounds like it's worth it to at least have 1 or 2.

Once you run our IB 3800s you'll never go back. I have to say that I was even surprised when I went to run some of my 3300 packs yesterday how big the difference was (I only own 6 of the 3800s packs at the moment, and ran short!). Needless to say, I'm grabbing a few more out of this batch!

I believe IB3800 vs GP3700 would be a more equal comparison.

Those IB 4200's are amazing ... but a person could get almost 6 cheaper batteries for the same price... so the debate goes on and on...

6 packs of 6 cells for 70$?!?
Less than 12$ per pack, even cheapo nimh packs are not that cheap. At that price it'd most likely be 1500-1900 Nicd.

Does someone know what's the avg voltage value of a regular nimh sports pack @30A discharge?
Which one contributes most to the higher performance of the good cells: the avg voltage or the lower IR?

Finally, like purple-car I'd like to have a quantitative estimate on the mph and acceleration improvement that an IB3800 would give over a 3000mAH sport pack.
