Dean's plug questions
Pretty basic questions here.
Are there standards on installing deans plugs?
It seems like common sense that the female part would go on the battery so there are no bare connectors exposed to short out. Is that right? Also, looking at the plug like a "T", does the positive wire go to the upright or the cross bar? Or does it even matter?
Thanks

RE: Dean's plug questions
Most of the plugs out there have a '+' and '-' right on so you don't get it mixed up. Polarity matters. You are right about it being common sense to use female for the battery and male for the device.

RE: Dean's plug questions
Thanks guys.
That's what I needed to know.
Also, I have Misbehaven's site bookmarked. I don't know why I didn't think to look there. Probably because I always thought of him as more of a nitro, not electric. guy. Oh well. Thanks again.

RE: Dean's plug questions
i dont agree with the wireing digram on misbehaving site do not use male off the esc to the motor i use female for my bats male for esc to bat
then male on motor and female on esc to motor to prevent shorting out the esc
pluss it will keep u from acdently hooking your bat to the motoer wires

Yep, I completely agre with discgolfer72.
Moreover if you ever wanted to plug the batteries (maybe lower cells #) to break in the motor or test it you could also do it (which would be impossible with female/female on both).

RE: Dean's plug questions
Thanks guys, I had wondered about that and just about decided to do it that way (male on motor). Hadn't thought about motor testing or break in but I don't like having bare connections exposed that could be hot. I'm currently working on making an adapter that goes from female Deans to male Tamiya so that I can use my batterys in things like my Roto starter. If you take the Tamiya connector apart you can solder the prongs directly to the Deans plug. Then when you put it back togeather it's one solid piece with no wires between. The proto-type seems to be working pretty slick.

Switch your Roto-Start over to Deans... Tamiya plugs, in any application, are garbage.

RE: Dean's plug questions
Well, I've got everything changed over to Deans with the exception of two esc's. I'll do those when the rest of the parts come in for those trucks.
The batterys were easy enough but the power starters for my nitro vehicles were a bit of a challange. The Losi Spin start, 2nd picture, was easy enough. The Traxxas EZ-Start, 3rd pic, was a bit harder and required a bit of creative engineering to get it like I wanted but I'm happy with the results. And the Roto-start, last pic, was a real bear. Partly due to the dual battery set up but also it was hard to get the Deans plugs to set right in the handle. I did finally get them all and, if you did not know they came with the Tamiya plugs, I don't think you could tell that the Deans plugs are not factory installed.
Check out the pictures and tell me what you think.
