gear pitch?
This is supposed to be a 32P pinion. ([link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEW94&P=ML]link[/link]) It has 9 teeth and a diameter of .33". So, to determine pitch, we would divide 9 by .33 (and it should give us 32). But, it does not give an answer of 32. So, whats the deal with that? I thought it was supposed to be 32P? Anyone know?

0.33 is the outer diameter.. not the "pitch" diameter.. Pitch diameter (PD) is somewhere in between the outer diameter and the diameter where the teeth meet the center metal part of the gear..
So you divide the 2, it gives you like 0.28" instead of 0.33".... that means 0.28" is the PD...

I thought pitch refered to how many teeth per inch. ???

Yeah, it is.. but it is per inch of piatch diameter (PD)..
32P = 32 teeth on a gear with 1" PD
