Well out of curiosity I went by Walmart and gave this thing a look. The rims are not held on by nuts like most hobby grade RC cars. Im sure if they were put together they can be removed, but by what means is not obvious without really digging into the car itself. Nothing appears to be adjustable, no toe in/out, no camber in/out, no adjustable shocks. I don't know what a 9.6v battery would cost, but I would rather spend the extra money on a Losi Mini-T. If the hot wheels car can't handle small rocks, then I'm sure I would be disappointed in this car. The looks of the car at first are very nice, but after closer examination through the box you can tell it is made from basic cheap plastic. One broken part and your screwed unless you can make your own parts. The rear tires have such shallow of treads that its easy to see why they would wear down in a few days. The slow steering response would drive me crazy as well. I have seen Losi mini-ts for $99 with free shipping and free hopup motor on ebay. I would rather spend the extra money for a hobby grade RC car that has all the options of 1/10th scale hobby grade RC cars. If this car is as touchy and has trouble with small rocks like stated above, I don't think I would even want kids learning to drive with one of these. This is just my opinion, others may find it to be a great deal, but knowing what I expect from RC cars and the small price differance, I would choose a Mini-T over this car for a little bit more cash. Check out Ebay before buying one of these unless your mind is just set on trying to hopup one of these, hell if you have the cash to put a brushless in one of these why not go for the Losi Mini-T.

acually the frame of the car is high impact plastic. and i crashed this car strait into a curb and not even a crack. but i see youre point. i still think its a pretty good car and worth the money.and the wheels just snap on and off. i just found that out.i aslo dont think this is a good car for young kids . i accidentaly ran into my foot at full speed and popped my big toenail back.oww.

Damn !! That sounds painfull !!! Yeah without taking it for a test drive or getting hands on its really hard to know what it is really like. I've just been into RC cars since 1984 and consider this a "Toy Grade" car. I would say it looks like a great toy grade RC, but for most people that have driven a hobby grade RC car, I think they might find it a let down. Although I am tempted to go buy one, check it out and return it. It looks like it would be fun for a little while, but I know eventually I would break something or want to hop it up. I've seen Losi Mini-Ts do a lot of crazy things, but like every RC car they have a breaking point, some can handle more punishment than others, and those are the real fun ones to drive !!! Have you tried it with just AA batteries ? I bet with AAs it would be better for a kid to learn with. I ask because I want to get my son and step son into RC one day and for $50 that car may be good for flat surface and small jumps or small hills, but when you are as young as they are, speed will come later on. They need the basic skills of turning and learning how to steer when the car comes back towards the driver. My step son is 8 and he has been learning with the Realrace G2 RC sim on my PC. I think he is ready for something real now. My son still has a lot to learn. But both of them don't really grasp half throttle speed .... its just stop and go LOL !!! So I would want something that is limited in speed but still powerful enough to go up small jumps or rolling hills about a foot high.

yeah when i popped my toe up i never cursed that loud in my life,im glad a bus full of nuns wasnt driving by.
and i did try it with aa bateries and the power is noticably different.so this would be a good car for youre young one
. but when running it id have him on a chair or something with his feet up so he doesnt do what i did.or at least have him on something safe. and what i might do to mine is take out all the current electronics and put in a servo controlled speed controller and servo controlled steering, that make it better i think.and to do this would be cheap.i buy a.m radios, with reciever and servos cheap off ebay.[8D][8D]

Thats cool. I'd like to see under the body of one. I also like the fact that with the 27Mhz (the red one) you could swap crystals out. I did see that each car has 3 channels so it is possible to race 6 total together. With lower voltage it could be a kid's car, but for serious RC drivers it is just a toy. I wouldn't sink too much money into it, by then you'll be wishing you had a AE or Losi truck. Even now I see 1/16th scale nitro buggies .... I think one of those would be sweet to drive. I never had a Losi Mini-t, but I've been wanting an 1/18th scale buggy or truck to carry along on trips or vacations. I really like taking a nitro powered car to the beach in Galveston. People dig it and I love showing it off.
I would be nice to have a smaller one for trips like that or trips out of state.

ok i finally got sick of the back tires on put on some 4 inch wide ones! wow, its a monstertruck now. i also built a little ramp out of card board. its about 9inches tall and 1 1/2 feet long.at half speed the car can go 4 feet high and five feet strait!i think the tires
also increased the speed. and its off road capibilities are much better.i love this little car more now!its even more like its lookalike cousen.losi mini_t! buy it!!!

Well I just bought one of these cars off ebay for dirt cheap. So now my step son has a car to learn with and I can really check it out. I thought about taking it to Walmart and returning it w/o a receipt .... make some money LOL. I guess it doesn't matter if its not what I like in an RC car, its great for him to learn on. I might rig the controller up so the trigger wont hit top speed, maybe with a screw. That way I can slowly screw it in to increase the speed for him as he gets better, then eventually take it out. Too bad its not 4WD ..... I'd slap some PVC on the back and learn how to drift it LOL. I'm gonna break it down and post pics for anyone interested.

I think I'll be impressed since it is a Walmart car, but I think I'm gonna like the Mini-T the most. I payed $20.50 total for the Hot Wheels.

I bought one of these cars to check it out. Basically, it's a good toy. I played with it for a day or two and decided to see what I could do to it. I rumaged around in my parts bin and came out with a receiver, ESC, and a servo. I took the body off the car and removed the steering motor and all onboard electronics. I mounted the receiver and esc in the place where the old electronics resided, then trimmed an area towards the front to make room for the steering servo. While I was at it, I got rid of the stock rear tires and put on a pair of street tread tires. The steering servo was very easy to install, using double sided sticky tape (automotive grade). After testing the new electronics, I installed 3 Traxxas Body Posts to the chassis so I could mount a different body. I put a "Herbie" body on it.
Put her back together and was very pleased. This car scoots!
I know that for the money put in to this thing, I could have bought a hobby grade car like a Mini T. But, I used spare parts I had accumulated over the years and was just having fun.
In stock form, the Fury FTX is a good value for a toy grade machine. Modified, it's a riot!
I'll post a pic if anyone wants to see it.

thats pretty cool RW650. I like that body, what did it come from? My son likes his Fury, but I hate the way it steers. I think Im gonna try a micro servo in it or something, seeing what you did made me want to improve his a bit. Nice Job !!!
