RE: TL-01 Question
My friend has one with every hopup made for it .He has a 10t in it and when he nails it at about 25mph it just goes sideways . Its light and insaine, he did however take the speed gears out to make it somewhat controlable ,but its pretty much a lost cause. The speed gear set is great with a 27 t or so. Or is it he put them back in hummmm ill have to ask him.

RE: TL-01 Question
I've been running speed tuned gears with a 23 tooth pinion on a 19T venom fireball motor. It's right at 25mph and is plenty fast for the TL-01.
I also have full bearings, hpi x-pattern belted radials and oil filled shocks. You definetly cannot turn at full speed, you'll end up doing barrel rolls if you try.

RE: TL-01 Question
Yes Speed Tuned Gears are great for the Onroad cars.
Regardless of Motor you will notice slightly more acceleration and a little bit better top end..
DO NOT USE SPEED TUNED GEARS IN A TL-01 BUGGY or MONSTER TRUCK!
This messes the gearing up big time and can cause the Buggies and Monster trucks to be over geared...
HBX TL-01's will accept the TL-01 speed tuned Gears..

Both me and my dads' TL01s have the speed tuned gear set. It massively improves top speed (very dramatically) but killed the acceleration. We hopped up to the speed tuned motor (recommended) and achieved the same acceleration as before but now with higher top-end.
Magnat You cannot get more acceleration and better top speed out of this gearing pack without changing the motor. It is basic physics. You get one or the other.
You can also use the TL01 speed tuned gears in a buggy; however you must run it on a smooth surface and if possible downgrade to a smaller rim with less unsprung (or kurb) weight.

RE: TL-01 Question
So if i upgrade to a hopup gear set i will loose NOTICEABLE axceleration? What if i change the SPUR also (how many teeth should i get)?Is hardened material necessary?

RE: TL-01 Question
Which TL-01 do you have? Is it one of the truck models or touring cars? The speed tuned gears should only be used in touring cars. I just recently built a TL-01 car that I turned into a rally car. I added the speed tune gear set and tried to use the same pinion. I lost so much acceleration that I ended up going down 2 teeth on the pinion. I now have a good mix of acceleration and top speed. I'm also running a 550 sized motor now.

RE: TL-01 Question
Ihave the 4WD car style? So what are my options. Isee so many options for gears and spurs not sure what to go with. I will be running a 19T motor if that makes a differecene. (how many pinion gears / spur gears are there anyway?)

RE: TL-01 Question
The TL01 has 3 different options for pinions. you can use 19, 21 and 23 tooth. Before you tear into the car and install the speed tuned gears, make sure you're running the 23 tooth pinion. You don't even have to remove the motor to do it. Check the link below for for instructions on different pinions for that chassis. The info you will want is on page 8.

When I installed the speed tuned gears I had to drop back from a 23 tooth down to a 21 tooth. If I was running on a tight track I'd go down even further to the 19 tooth.
