Hi guys, I have ordered a Cyclone S which comes with a 96 tooth 64 pitch spur, what size pinion would be a good start?, a good overall gearing to get good acceleration out of corners etc. It said to use the following formula Spur/Pinion x 2.4375 = ?:1. what is the good ration to use?
Thanks for the help

it definitely depends on the motor you're putting in...
i usually start with asking the fast guys at the track what ratio works well for them. when taking their advice your lap times, run time, and motor temperature will guide you as to which way to adjust your ratio. if you can run good times but your battery dumps too soon or your motor gets "too hot" go smaller pinion.
i use 7.68 ratio in my CYCLONE (104t spur/33t pinion) i run stock class (trinity epix x stock motor, 4200 In batteries, novak gts)

I am planning on running in stock class in ChCh with some mates, so I think I will be getting a 27 turn motor of some discription (any suggestions?), not sure what the rules allow for at the moment. Its my first car so I have very limited knoledge at his point! Never thought the first reply would be from Hamilton!

Nice to see another kiwi on here...
Can you tell us what motor you're putting in it? That is the key factor.

The NZRCA rules have stock class as only "silver cans", which are pretty low end, but not all clubs might follow those rules.
I can't be exactly sure what pinion to run, though, sorry. Hopefully someone else might know better than I.
