Tamiya Car Showdown
Hi!
I need some help on my next car (yes, I am already thinking of a next car :-P)
It's going to be on road, but primarily drifting. I am looking at either the TT-01 R (racing version with hopups, $134 at Tower)
or the stock TB-02. ($123 at RCMart)
Which one is more worth the money? Which will perform better as a general on-road-driving-fun-thing? Which will handle BL?

Are you not considering Belt Drives?
The TA04 can be had for 130ish from tower if you use the coupon.
The TA05 can also be had for under a 140 with the coupon.

For drifting get the TT01, more bang for your buck as well as super easy to fix and durable. there's tones of parts available and allows the use of stick and SxS pack easily.
TB02 is nice too, but drifting can be hard on the chassis. I you were planning to race I'd say TB02, but for drift, TT01.

RE: Tamiya Car Showdown
Acually I was thinking about going from a tt-01 to a tb-02. My tt-01 has served me well in the act of drifting; however, it seriously lacks adjustable settings and smooth suspension action.
I had only discovered the importance of being able to tune the car for drifting when I had bought a TA05. It took a while for me to find a good setting for me but after I found it, drifted much better than my previous tt-01. Basically, It became more predictable.
As for suspension performance, There seems too be too much friction between where the A-arm is connected to the chassis (plastic rubbing plastic, eww). I bet the tb-02's suspension movement is more fluid since the A-arm and chassis is connecented by a smooth metal rod. This my theory, it might not be correct(meh).
There also doesn't seem to be enough suspension travel. All this is relavent because I feel that tuning the spring rate is one of the most important things for drift tuning because the changes can easily be noticed. Those are gone to waste on a tt01.
In a nutshell, tb-02 hands down. I could go on and on but this post is getting pretty long. One last thing, tt0-1 could be a little more durable than a tb-02 but your not likely to break anything while drifting because your not going 25+mph. Hope this helps
