a well driven "basher" will beat a poorly driven "racer" every time

So it would take a more skilled driver to win with a rustler than to win with those other ones,

good to know.

I race my rustler with my friend but I guess that doesn't count.

funny that the rustler is faster than any of the others out of the box. I think you are being a bit snobbish here. I mean if the guys a good racer he can kick the butts of associated, losi, or pretty much any "racing" company.

zbrc: there was a guy on here a couple months ago that made an amazing race rustler. Try to see if you can find the thread with the search feature. It was a pretty long thread, I'm guessing about 7-9 pages.

what many people do it cut off the areas to the left and right of the battery where the ESC and receiver mount. I wouldn't recommend this though since it weaken the chassis a lot and it does not save much weight. I do not own a rustler so I can not say any tips from personal experience, but installing lighter tires, lipo batteries if you have the money, if not a good quality nimh pack with as many cells as the ESC can take is a good alternative though rather heavy, also installing a faster motor, switching connectors to deans or powerpoles, upgrading to 12 or 10 gawg wire, drilling holes in areas that do not provide much structural support such as skids, also lowering your body will help with aerodynamics.

rustlers can be made very competitive with the "racers"
