RE: The official UNOFFICIAL thread of Tamiya Frog - LB strikes again!!
LB, I've been trying to get my wife to run the camera for some action shots, but for some reason, she's been preoccupied with something else when I run my cars and planes lately. It could be our new daughter, I dunno. In seriousness, I thought all hobby activity would stop for at least a year after she was born, but my wife has been encouraging me to play around with the cars and planes--it gives the three of us an excuse to get out of the house, the baby seems to enjoy her time outdoors, and my wife gets free entertainment watching me crash.
Mike, the CVD kit is worth every penny and is an easy upgrade--you won't regret it. Good luck!

I'm going to sort of rain on a parade here. I had a Frog back in 88/89 when I was a kid, and for the life of me can't figure out why Tamiya brought it back. Back then these things were dismal performers and I can't imagine them being any better 18-19 years later. Some things are better left in the past. [8D]
Now if Tamiya really wanted to bring back a true classic for all those longing to relive their childhood, the Bruiser Toyota Pickup would be a great candidate.

Ha, right, if you want performance, I am sure you won't be looking at Frog.. so people are just buying it for sentimental value and/or just bashing.. (they are quite durable..)
When it came out, though.. it was a very good performing buggy, however.. remember, this is before the time of RC10, etc. The space frame design was pretty cutting edge back then!! People did race these Frogs...
Bruiser was cool for sure.. that's why Tamiya makes the F-350 now!!

OMG!! I have been out of RC fun for twenty yrs and I can't believe people are still using the frog chassis. I built a carpet car and a 2WD truck with that chassis. My first car was a Striker. I am thinking about getting back into the fun again and was worried about getting parts. It looks like that may not be a problem, though. This is sweet!

It ran OK after tweaking it a little, but even then a box stock RC10 would run circles around it-I had one of those too. I tried racing the Frog, but it was never competitive for a few major reasons, hence the RC10 purchase. I eventually threw the Frog away in the garbage and all the other stuff related to it was also chucked when we moved. I sold the "goldie" RC10 and all my other RCs when I was in highschool when my interest in RC went on a 20 year hibernation.
My Frog had oil shocks on the front from a company I can't remember, full ball bearings, Brat front tires and wheels, a heavy duty threaded rod steering linkage with ball-type rod ends from a company I can't remember, Pro Line Chevron rear tires on the stock rims, a Parma Chevy truck body (that they still carry), a unknown universal body mount kit and a Losi "Yellow sticker" stock motor. Yes, it still had the old mechanical speed control on it and I used those odd shaped Tamiya hard plastic battery packs. I have a old pic or two....I guess I could scan them and post them when I get home from work. They were taken back in 89, so they are truly vintage.[8D]

Yeah, I hear ya.. but you got to remember that The Frog was released in the early 80s, it is really a generation before the RC10...
But for sure, it has a lot of limitation!!

The first thing I need is an ESC. I quit when my son (about 5 yrs old at the time) ran it through a puddle and fried it. As I said, I need to look through the box of stuff.

Yeah, it is pretty sweet.. just get the beetle shell and put it on!! Tamiya needs to keep on making some kind of beetle shell to keep up the tradition!! (Monster Bettle, Blitzer Beetle, etc.)

Wish I knew where to get a lexan beetle shell like the one above that would fit my froggy. ABS wouldn't last long in my hands[>:]. The pictures with all the CRP upgrades brought back some memories! I remember having that front and rear bumper setup. Always thought the rear bumper looked like it belonged on a sprint car. Never had upgraded front shocks though. You should see the wear on the delrin rocker nubs on my current frog - instead of having a round end, they have a flat side at about 45°! I guess all that sand and grit over time...

Yeah, I was holding out for some action shots, but my schedule's been kinda full lately, with all the baby-related stuff happening(not that I'm complaining, it's a trip!). Maybe tonight I'll get some static shots of the Frog--lighting's no good for action shots this evening...

BuzzBomber :
Try this body:

You have to change the mounting holes, but it will fit. I had this body on another Tamiya product and it fit perfect - looks cool too.
