Default Poor range with Radio advice please!

Ok I just took my stock Traxxas Radio and reciever off my E-Maxx, and put on my Futaba 3PM-FM 3ch 75mhz Radio and mini reciever that I had on my Mini. And now the range isnt as good as it was with the mini. I would say it makes it between 2 or 3 houses down the dtreet now and starts glitching. Its pretty much setup the same, what would cause this?

Only difference really is the mini was BL and the EMX isnt yet. I have all my extra length in the cables ziptied, but the cables arent ziptied together. The servo cables and esc cables are seperated. Doesnt make since to put a better radio and reciever in and get less range.

sounds like the motors and or electrical wires are creating interferance. Try insulating the cables and wires with shrink wrap and see if problem persist.

heat shrink isnt really a insulator is it? Its just rubber, like whats already around the wires, just a little thicker if your lucky. Wouldnt you need some type of foil insulated wiring cover?
Thanks for the idea, might have to try it anyway.

This doesnt sound good![&o]

It worked fine on my mini quake though, never glitched at all. And I was running it as far as I was my E-Maxx. Must be something causing it like interferance, I just dont know what. Everything was more bunched up on my mini than it is now, just doesnt make sense to me.

I may also need to change the batteries, it is at about 9.6 volts. But I ran my mini yesterday with no problems, so that cant be it either, or can it?hmmmmm

Heat shrink and batteries, on the list for trying tomorrow so far.

Maybe the higher voltage battery wise is doing it or the twin motors?

True that.

Can a mini reciever run on the E-maxx with 14 cells or will it cause problems? I have the R153F micro, anyone else running this with no problems on a E-Maxx? I would think it could handle the voltage, but Im not sure.

No its not that because I know for a fact that the e-maxx's EVX only puts out the power from one battery to the receiver.

I just think it has to do with the dual motors and how close they are to it. And maybe they 14cell being thrown throught the esc and motors.

relocate the receiver and antenna further away from the ESC and motors.. single strand the wires down the chassis and away from the reciever these are things that will help also make sure you have all 3 capacitors on each motor.. one from each power terminal to the body of the motor and one between the terminals there are a few things that can cause glitching this will rule out quite a few..

if you do all that and the problem persists.. then start looking for metal on metal rattlings.. chattering for some reason metal to metal vibration interferes with the rf signal and causes glitching

hope this helps

Well Im going to reroute everything and try doing the heat shrink thing tomorrow sometime. I also have the esc closer to the motors, I should move it towards the front of the truck some more.

I wonder if wrapping the wires with aluminum foil then heatshrinking would work better or cause more problems. It would make it kind of like a shielded wire instead I would think.

You might also want to get your anntenna away from the motors because there probably dangling over the motors right now.

I did just notice that my motor mount was a little loose, I just tightened it up. And it has stock motors with caps going to the can, but not to each terminal.

The antenna is in the stock location, but it does bend back a little from rolling over and I have fish tank air line tubing over the antenna to help keep the wire from getting cut. But thats how it was on the mini also.

I will probably hit up the LHS tomorrow also and get a new antenna tube, mine a little worn anyway.

Uh, of course it wouldn't [&:] The length of the antenna wire has to be correct.. if anything it could make range shorter..
