Default Official Power Wheels Barbie Corvette circa 1990 Thread

Has anyone converted a power wheels car to a RC? I know someone has. My parents bought my sister a Barbie Corvette Power Wheels when she was 3 years old. That was 17 years ago. So she's 20 years old and found her barbie car while we were cleaning out our warehouse. The lead acid battery that came stock no longer worked and the battery terminal was broken so she assumed it was doomed to sit there and remain as eye candy from her youth. Well she comissioned me to take a look at it and see what I could do. She had her heart set on getting back behind the wheel of this 3 1/2 foot long behemoth of a machine. I brought it home tonight and promtly replaced the connector of yester-decade with a nifty deans ultra plug. Now the battery that came with this modern marvel was a 9amp/hour 6.0v battery that probably weighed about 15lbs. I thought I'd give it that extra boost(for the track of course) with a 2S 2000mah battery rated at 20C. Proceed to testing phase. My brave little girlfriend, being only slightly above the 65lbs max weight capacity, (cough x2 cough) jumped in feet first. Slammed the pedal and was rewarded with enough torque to promtly knock her on her, rear, cute one that it may be. Back in the saddle with a newfound appreciation for finding center, she let all 7.2volts loose, and was off and running at a modest 5mph. I was shocked to say the least. So I have come to the conclusion, that something made primarily of ABS plastic, manufactured almost 2 decades ago, and it still works. Wow.

So in closing I've decided that I'm going to turn it in to an RC, so my sister will have the enormous delight of driving her dog around in it by way of remote control. So if you've seen a thread where this has been done before, I would be very appreciative of some linkage. This should be slightly above mildly(possibly moderately) entertaining. Only time will tell.

Someone at RCX this year had an R/C powerwheels truck. I have no idea which one it was but it had enough grunt to spin it's rear wheels.

From what I have heard one of the guys from Castle Creations ran some Mambas on a Power Wheel Jeep I think. Could be a little off on that one, but I saw a video of it a while back.

It actually has one (what I beleive to be 540 can) motor on each rear wheel. With two 4600 MM's I bet it would haul. I can't imagine putting that kind of money into it. So I may start out with dual Tazer ESC's and come up with some sort of servo setup for it. Not sure what servo I'll use. Any idea what a large cheap servo is?

Not sure if this servo is large enough, says its for a 1/4 scale.

Yes, one of the large-scale servos is essetial. Also, you will need more powerful motors to go faster

Drive her dog around ? Is your sister Paris Hilton or Nicole Ritchie ? If you want a real kick, whack an Odyssey car battery in it.

lol, who knows what goes through most girls minds. She has a lab that's past her duck hunting days and loved to ride on the back of four wheelers. I guess this is the next best thing. I don't imagine it's anything more than for a couple pictures and novelty. When I was little and had a toys r us rc, I taped a cup to the top of it and would put my hamster inside and drive him around in little circles in my living room. Oh the madness.
