Dont bother with outrunners unless your planning to run them "Direct Drive". Takes some real skill to get them to work well with cars/trucks/buggies. The Feigao XL series and the KB45's are a nice touch for some good power and are pretty reliable IMO. But if your going to run these motors I say look into a Car/Truck ESC instead because of the added burst current. The burst current will help you get maximum accelerations and maybe even wheelies.

Heres what I'd concider...

Feigao 9xl- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4880
Feigao 8xl- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5225
KB45 8L- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4938
KB45 10L- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4940

And if you get a ESC that will handle some serious amp draw then take a look into this...

KB45 8xl- http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4937

I was looking at the KB motors, but i was wondering where i could find a pinion gear that would fit on a 6mm shaft.

Drill it out to 6mm.

i think i might be going with an Ofna Ravager now, but i'm not sure. And i don't want to pay for a 6mm drill bit. Will the ammo motors work well enough?

takedown, how would you get a 45mm diameter KB motor to fit in a buggy? got any pics? I would think that a 45mm motor would be on the heavy side for a 1/8 buggy...

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6527

(as you know, i am on a budget, and i was thinking about selling the academy just to afford this.)

The KB45 "s" will fit and will be just about as heavy as the XL feigao's. Its alot of power for a buggy but who cares...

I'm not talking about length.... I'm talking about diameter. How would you get around that problem?

J.M., I never used a turnigy motor. One thing that concerns me is the low watt rating. I wouldn't want to use it in a 1/8th scale.

Im sure it could be done. I think I saw awhile back a 1/8 truggy conversion with the KB45 8xl in it. Looked pretty power hungry.

how would one of these motors:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2030
on 3s or 4s do?
(in a hyper 7 kit)

I am looking for a motor that is either black, gray (or silver) or red. I am trying to keep the colors of my car the same, so it looks very professional. Here's a pic of the buggy:
http://www.ofna.com/images/hyper7-tq...-sport-big.jpg
only difference is mine will be a kit.

This might help you guys understand my dilemma a little better:

I want to get a brushless 1/8 scale buggy.
My budget is $500 tops.
The less i spend the better.
I am GOING to get this car:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJLE8&P=7
(using tower's coupon, i can get this car for $210)

Because of my budget, I am really attracted to this esc:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=3728

I like these motors, but i hear they aren't the best:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6527

I would also consider one of these:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2030

Any motor suggestions would be helpful, as long as they keep me under budget.

I am looking at running either of these batteries, dependent upon motor selection:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6416
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6414

and if i can get away with it,
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6418
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6428

And this charger:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5549

How do you think this would do?

I plan on using the RC monster motor mount for the hyper series buggies.
How many amps do you think the motor would draw?
(so i can figure out my minimum battery ratings)

All of chris Fine's work is overpriced and made with parts that noone else does, you are better off building your own. i reccomend Rc-monster.com/forum im a member and there is a lot of very valuable information.

that big of a truck is going to need a HUGE motor, and pretty much the only thing i can think of that will even move that sucker is a giant Neu, or one of these:

JM, Do not and I repeat do not get a plane ESC for your conversion. Spend a little extra and either get a MM and buy one of my capacitor boards or get a MMM.

You can use lipo batteries for bashing but you will have to have common sense. Liion will be more durable sense they come in hard shells. Some lipos do come in hardshell cases. When bashing with a lipo always make sure their 100% secure.

It might work, but its UBER GAY!

Nice ding in the floor too.

Hello

I read this thread with interest as I am about to embark on a truggy/buggy conversion, haven't decided which yet!!! One question though, if I decide to go diy rather than buying conversion kit, where is everyone getting the motor mounts from?????

here:
http://www.rc-monster.com/rcm.php

And you can use these for battery holders:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LX2778&P=7

I would suggest either esing a MMM combo, or getting a neu motor and one of these:
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...RK_125A&cat=21
or these:
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...MM160183sHCS01

only difference is the first one is about 20mm longer than the second. (still huge) Both won't heat up at all with a 1515-1520 neu.

Thats not plastic. Its titanium alloy. So is the motor mount.
