If he is new to rc 30mph is going to be too fast. I got a Stampede XL1 for my first car and that was fast for me at first. 3 years later I have a 73MPH nitro. I don't recommend making that big a change

i'm no expert, but if you get the rustler (bandit isn't as good), and you stuff a good quality 7 cell in it like i'm going to do, that should be years of fun. really fast if you gear it right which isn't hard to do. (i hope, other wise i'm screwed over for r/c[])
hope that helps[sm=shades_smile.gif]

How old is your brother and does he know how to drive? That right there will narrow your choices.

xl5 rusty is probably one of the best starter cars. Tough as nails, and plenty of upgrade potential. He's on the right track I think.

for a newbie getting into RC get either the rustler, or the new evader EXT, both are bullet proof but the evader will handle better and you can take it to a track. also the evader is cheaper at 119.99. the rustler will be faster out of the box. everyone in RC upgrades there stuff, i know i did. i started out with spending 200 for a rtr and now i have a few thousand on this hobby, lol

RE: Help my brother choose? not e-maxx
And as for "only 30 mph for $300" you're completely ignoring the fact that the E-maxx is 8lbs, is 4x4, AND has a 2-speed transmission, and go places other r/cs can't.
But yes, the Rustler and especially the Bandit are faster and easier to make faster. I have both, and the Bandit is easy to go faster, and longer run times due to it's smaller wheels. Also, it handles a little better due to it's lighter weight.
Either one of those are good.
