Should traxxas high current conns come stock on xl-5? (Pede,Rusty)
hi. I wanna know if you guys think the traxxas vxl connectors/ high current connectors should stay included on the xl-5 esc or go. Personally, I think they should go because the xl-5 cars are "skill level 1" but a newbie in the hobby probably doesn't want to have to solder on them friggin' trx connectors on the battery leads. I'm sorry. but they can't rate it skill 1 if you have to do that. This will be my first car, and I know how to solder becuase "shops class" in school, but come on. I'm not gonna risk my soon to be owned ib 4200's that are 60 bucks a pop where I get them, on my crappy soldering jobs. Maybe if 75% of you guys or so say they should be thrown out the window, traxxas might get rid of them
wow. I really don't care about a tiny loss of performance. I just wanna have fun with an r/c.

Yeah. I think that they won't want to. If they really want a high current connector they'll get one. Keep it on a BL or Maxx.

I really don't care what any vehicle's stock battery plugs are. Fact is no company will offer Deans stock and Deans are what I (and many others) use.

I don't see why Traxxas bothered, deans have been established in this hobby for almost 9 or 10 years, and most people run them. People will change out the connectors to deans if that is what they are running.
Plus, most newbies will keep the tamiya (molex) plugs not knowing better, so why force them to solder on a new plug or buy an adapter?

round of applause for you, paintstikker. Very well said. I think it's a way for traxxas to get a couple extra bucks out of us if we don't use another type of connector so that we'll have to buy their type and go from there. what a scam...[sm=punching.gif]

It's not a scam or anything, but yes it is another way to make money. However with that said, how many of us have had our connectors or heard of another person's stock Tamiya connectors melt after running for a long period of time, a high voltage battery, or low turn high power motor? I'd be willing to say many of us have had the stock connectors melt back to back... (I know I had to replace the Tamiya connectors twice at least before going to Deans).
That said, the TRX plugs are now available on some batteries from the factory. I think Maxamps is one, then Duratrax I think has some batteries that come with the TRX connectors.
When you melt your crappy Tamiya plugs, you WILL have to replace them.. Which means you WILL have to cut the wires on your battery and even ESC and replace them with the same kind, or be smart and get better connectors so you don't HAVE to worry about resistance and heat and melting plastic again...
And as for the loss in performance. It depends on what kind of motor you have in your car. Usually you will increase the overall performance and maybe even runtime, because the connection out of the battery is more efficient. Why would you keep on using inferior connectors when you can replace them with Deans or even the TRX ones.

I voted YES.
I think they will eventually, I dunno whats the difference between deans and the traxxas connector, but the deans connectors work real well.

good point, but think about this. Why would you use a high current battery/connector whrn the titan 12 turn burns out really fast as people have said...

cuz the stock crappy tamiya connectors will melt, and traxxas probably didnt like having another brand of high current connectors on their cars, so they made there own. xl-5's come with them

why wouldn't they like it? It voids the warranty on the esc so traxxas isn't responsible for broken stuff. That way when people void it with deans, traxxas isn't getting milked for free parts.

You guys now that replacing TRX Connectors with another plug doesn't void the Warranty right?

Where is that rumor coming from anyway??????
People have talked to Traxxas and simply changing out the connectors does NOT void any kind of warranty.
There have been several people send ESC's to Traxxas with Dean's connectors and Traxxas has covered them under warranty w/o any problems.

But you are correct, it does not void the warranty.

RE: Should traxxas high current conns come stock on xl-5? (Pede,Rusty)
To the original question, I think that every RTR electric vehicle should come stock with some kind of high current connector and lose those Tamiya pieces of junk.
What I think that Traxxas should really do, if they want to put their own connectors on, is include a couple of adapters so that people can use the most common batteries w/o having to buy anything else.

I think it was a smart idea, they are better than tamiya by far. If you want to use tamiya on all your batteries still, buy a $5 adapter and you dont have to solder anything.
