Entry Level Car/Buggy Recommendations (Electric)
I’m looking for a reasonably priced RC car to play around with around my house.
I’m an electrical engineer, but my only experience with RC is some TYCO cars as a teenager.
Budget is around $150 with remote, battery, and charger.
Car will be used mainly on grass and blacktop with some occasional dirt and sand
Speed and durability are my main concerns.
I also want to be able to get parts easily if I break something.
So… Anyone want to recommend some models for a beginner?
Besides cost, what are the disadvantages of going with 4WD? Given the same motor and gearing, on a smooth surface, are the 4WD cars much slower than an equivalent 2WD?
Thanks in advance for the ideas!

Cheap Stampede (rustler won't do as well in grass). You could try the wheely king that comes with everything needed for $180. It's slow but will do wheelies till you release the throttle (and you get really long runtimes).

greetings, i have your answer. there is really only one way to go for your budget. you want something cool, but not for racing. the best pick is the radio shack mattracks. it costs about 80, and 25 per battery. not sure on the charger price. 4wd, headlights, comes with a set of mattracks( i still dream of a set of these for my real truck). i've had good luck with radio shack rc. if you want to go 170 plus tax you can get the exceed rc from nitrorcx and a seven cell battery from hobby people. i have them both personally.

i would suggest a Traxxas Stampede. it is a little above your price range but the extra cash would be well worth it.
