Default Warning: Evader EXT idler gear problem

FYI, after a week of e-mail haggling with DuraTrax's support, they finally decided to send me a replacement idler. My original idler was out of round and causes drags in the transmission.

The replacement idler is even worse than the original. I couldn't get the idler shaft through both sides.

The DuraTrax tech support is less than helpful. They say there is no cross reference for the EXT idler and the Aluminum Nitro Evader idler, and the ST/BX/Pro idler won't work in the EXT. The ST/BX/Pro idler sure looks like the same idler.

So, my plans are:
A. Purchase ST/BX/Pro idler and try it anyway
B. Use only one bearing in the EXT's idler
C. Find a 11mm drill bit and drill through the d@mn thing

This is the same 5x11 bearing on both sides of the idler, it's easy to spot the problem:

is it plastic or metal?

I would just drill though it and be done with it, but thats me.

It looks identical to original , same problem with many of them. IF THE PART NUMBERS are same then the aluminum will fit, right?

It has the same tooth count (29), same width 9mm. Looks like they are both 48P so it should work. But at $17 for a DuraTrax part it's a bit...

I got an aluminium idler for my new brushless set-up (yes, I'm a happy lad now). However, when I put it in the tranny, the gear was, I believe the term is "cogging"? In short, the gear is out of round! I'm measure it with a caliper the next chance I get to make sure of this.
