For that price range you would be looking at something like a traxxas stampede, rustler. Or a new hpi e-firestorm. You also have to remember that you need to buy batteries and a charger.
You are not going to get a whole lot of speed with that budget. Sorry.[]

I have a stampede, And I love it. I think the new e-firestorm is really awsome. It might be the fastest out of the three seeing how it directed towards racing. It is up to you, I think you will be happy with any of them.

the rustler is also a great truck but i'm not as fond of it. it will handle better and go faster then the pede. the problem with it is that is a cross between two trucks. it's a cross between a t4/xxx-t and a stampede. it's built like a stampede (durable) and it's low cg makes it handle good like the t4/xxx-t. the problem with it is that for all out bashing the pede is better and for racing the t4/xxx-t will smoke it. so if you just like to do both the rustler would be good for you. not saying the pede cant be fun a race track[8D]

The EXT is a great truck for the $$, it would be best if you get ball bearings for the whole truck, but its not necessary. Its a great truck for the $$ regardless. I have one and haven thad any trouble with it and I have been running brushess and beat the snot out of it.

Why not look into something used? There are a lot of good deals for sale, and you can get batteries, charger, extra parts, tires ect for way less than a new one. Most even have better motors/esc's already. If it is your first, you will crash and break a few things, just get one that your lhs sells parts for.

Best bang for your buck is the Evader EXT by a mile. $99 for a durable and yet racable st that has alot of potential. Spend the extra $100 on a used brushless system.

RE: getting into electric
On your budget I would definately get a the evader ext, some duratrax 6-cell 3800 or 4200mah batteries, a duratrax peak charger, and then a nice brushed motor
It will be faster then the stampede or rustler, if you break parts they are covered under warranty, the differential can handle brushless, and it probly has better electronics. I wouldn't get a rustler or stampede unless its the vxl model which is out of your budget

Unique. In that you've got a sleeper. Performing with an rc not everyone has. Your set apart-- looled at as a little less then. Then you bring it and this forum will fill up with Exceeds/Redcats. So start looking for the next thing to beat all the Exceed/Redcat guys!
