Default stay or go?!?!

ok so i recently got a rustler xl-5 with a vxl motor in it. i was wanting to upgrade it but people are saying it is better just to buy a better car.
i dont really want another car right now but people say if i am gonna spend money on a car make it a good car.
so is it worth spending the money on my rusty or is it better to just buy a kit?
i am no racer just a basher. i am gonna do some jumps but nothing major.
if i stick to my rusty (which i probably will) what do you think needs upgrading? i have new tires and rims and a new idle gear. also a RPM bumper. but thats it
so what i am asking is:
is it better to upgrade my rusty or get a new kit?
if you say rusty can you tell me what needs upgrading

I don't know why anyone would say just buy another car if your bashing. The rustler/stampede is arguably the best basher...it is IMO.

I have a stampede vxl and love it even though a rarely use it. Heres the upgrades that I would look into for your rustler from most important to least important:

Good Batteries
RPM Front and Rear bearing carriers and duratrax 5x11mm ball bearings
Traxxas Aluminum Big Bore Shocks-provide smoother shocks and hold more shock oil
Swami-Rc Wheelie Bar
Really any rpm parts
Different size pinions
Different wheels and tires are great if you drive on different surfaces

What kind of batteries and charger do you use? Do you use the traxxas high current connectors on all your stuff or the adapter with the high current connector and molex connector?

the only reason a basher should ever give up a rustler is if he is going into racing. in that case, yes, it would be better to get a t4/xxx-t. for bashing the rustler and pede are perfect. your car has an aluminum idler, a vxl in it.. i don't know what else you would need. if it's not broken don't upgrade it. thats a waste of money

Whoever is telling you to buy a better car to bash with has lost their mind plain and simple. The rusty/Bandit/Pede's are the best bashers out there period. Listen to scheibler above. He's dead on.. One thing thought. You said it's an XL5 with the VXL motor. If you haven't done s already you will need to upgrade the tranny gears to the steel pieces. The stock idler won't last long but that's just a few dollars in parts and most hobby shops will have them.

yea...i'm assuming the idler you bought is the steel idler. If you haven't installed it yet be sure to get some thick grease like the traxxas white lithium lube. Thats what I use and it really smooths out the tranny

You really don't need the upgrades I listed, but its a start if you want to sorta customize your car to your likings. Once again, what battery and charger are you using? This will make the biggest difference with the vxl

battery is where to spend your money, with the right lipo it can go over 50mph. even 65+mph with diff gearing.
this shows battery importance

The VXL rusty is one helluva truck. Im absolutely positive that once you slap a nice and powerful 3s lipo in there that you'll make up your mind on what to do instantly.

the pede chassis isn't just a bolt on. you need to also buy other things. www.swami-rc.com has a way to do this. you need to get a lot more then just a new chassis. you are better off to just get some m2k's they will give you some better ground clearence.. if thats not enough, you could always raise your chassis up by the shocks.
