does anyone know how to completely seal the chassis from the top, so no dirt or gravel etc gets in?
I was thinking of using some lexan to cover off the entire top, and put some hinges on it to open it easily, but I didn't know how to actually implement it (where to put the hinges, etc).
Let us know if you find a way though.

Why not?!

Why not use a piece of lexan and then just seal the edge w/ electrical tape?

Could you use a Tupperware container? I couldn't find one small enough to cover just the electronics, and you'd have to cut holes for the servo arm but it could work.

Where can you find lexan? Can I just buy some from my local arts and crafts store?

i will try and find some lexan, and maybe velcro it on,

i think a tupperware box would be too heavy

If you can find the throw away type of tupperware containers, those would be a lot lighter. Only problem would be finding one the right size. If you have to modifiy it too much, it doesn't make sense to use it at all.
You might consider just a plastic bag or plastic food wrap to go over it.

Sure thing.
The one in the front with the white wheels is my original that I got in 2000. I took a short (3 week) class in school where we learned about RC cars, put together the RS4 Rally kit, and raced them. The one behind it I got last Monday from someone who was in the same class. Got a rolling chassis, receiver, and servo for $20. It was barely driven so it's in really good condition.
You can see the ground clearance the longer shocks give.

No, unfortunately there's not really anyplace to drive them like that around here. I've been using one for mostly on-road driving and the other I'm considering getting running, but having more for an collector's piece since they don't make them anymore.

i'm quite lucky,
i have my front garden, and the field in the pics in this thread is only a 10 minute bike ride away (my other hobby), it also has ramps, steep hills (which i jumped my b4 down and smashed the front up )

Luke, there's a Tamiya TG-10 Undercowl set (#53364) that fits the TT-01 perfectly. I've been trying to find one but I can't find much info on it, and there's some on eBay for $35.[:@][:@]

ha ha

my mate converted his TL-01 into a rally car, he installed the rally tyres earlier, and then tried it.

he was driving it around his garden in the dark, then he hit a big pile of dog turd, so he used a hose-pipe to clean it :P

i just thought that nessecary to share

That place has it for 11 pounds, but I don't know how much shipping from the UK will cost, so I've been looking for US based sites. It's a good deal for you though.

I'm looking into getting a rally vehicle of some kind (Tamiya of course). I'll probably go for a TT-01, but I was wondering what you did to yours to make it rally ready other than the different tires. Did you change shocks or anything like that?

Cool, so how did you find it handling the mud and bumps ? I've got a tt01 on the bench that i'm slowly building up into a rally car.
