Yes, set cell count with battery hooked and the display must read "lipo" (push start from the cell number screen)

If it is a 2S it charges at 2.5 amps and a 3S charges at 3 amps. MAX (fastest) figures.

WHAT??? Cell count has nothing at all to do with the amp rate that you should charge your packs at! Adding extra cells in series only changes the overall voltage of the pack and has nothing at all to do with capacity or charging rates. Most lipo packs should be charged at maximum rate of 1C. For a 4000mah pack that would be 4A.

This would be like saying that you should charge a 6 cell 4200 NIMH pack at a lower amp rate than a 7 cell NIMH pack.

I charge my 3s Flight Power Evo25 2500 pack at 2.5a while I also charge my 6s Flight Power Evo25 2500 packs at 2.5a.

Normally that's true, and in this instance the 2s has a 2.5 amp max and the 3s has a 3 amp max.

ps I do charge my Nickel packs the opposite or the way you describe. 10 cell 5amps, 8 cell 6 amps, 6 cell 8 amps ,ect. No matter though [X(]

yeah hes right, the 977 has an amp limiter than you never find out about until you have the charger. I still like mine though.

balancers are pretty universal and if the connectors can be matched up adapted or hooked correctly then any balancer should work.

My Orion Platinum 4800s say DO NOT USE MRC CHARGERS. Why? (I don't have an MRC charger, I am just curious why.)

OK. Now I understand what you were saying. I also apologize for sounding like a jerk. [:@] I am by no means a know it all. I have learned most of what I know about lipos over on the electric heli boards where those guys really know their stuff.

In fact I do own a 977 but I will not use it to charge my lipos. I tested it a couple of times only to find out that it does not fully charge lipo packs. I took one of my small 3 cell Thunder Power 1320 packs and charged it a 1.3a on the 977 while balancing using a Hyperion LBA10. I then moved the pack to my Hyperion EOS1210i chager and was able to put in an additional 180mah. That means that the 977 only charged the pack to 85% of its capacity. I believe that this is becuase it does not finish the charge using a constant voltage method like the 1210i and other lipo chargers do.

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the 977 as a NIMH charger. I love the fact that I can charge sets of 7 cell packs for my E-Maxx at the same time in about 1 hour. I just don't believe that the 977 is your best choice for charging lipo packs.

My lipo experience with the 977 was the opposite really, but I came to same conclusion as you. It's a great Nickel dual charger, but I do not use it for lipos.

sometimes I don't get my point across very well. [&:]

Actually that is good to charge to only 85% because if you charge lipos to 85% then you can make them last a whole lot longer than 100%.

thats wrong. only the "B" output will charge LiPos and nickels. "A" is for nickel batteries only.

the lame part of LiPo charging is the low 2.5A rate for 2S packs. as mentioned, it will charge 3S packs at 3A. strange indeed.

i charge my 2S packs with no problems. to balance, i charge each cell individually as a 1S battery every 4-6 cycles. a peaked Lipo cell is 4.2V. my 977 usually stops when the cell voltage is 4.15V to 4.18V. so its not FULLY charged but better safe than sorry.
