What parts have you broken with a VXL power? If stock, what did you replace with and what was the result?

Nothing I can think of. They are pretty solid out of the box.

We're on our third VXL ESC. The power leads keep coming off the board (poor solder joints).

Yeah, they use cold solder. I have had that problem twice. The button also gets stuck on the ESC a lot from dust getting in there.

I stripped my spur gear, and my front wheel fell off on the first pack. Oh and I cracked the wheelie bar mount when I landed a jump wrong.

The spur gear could have been from inpropper gear mesh. The Traxxas wheelie bar to me is a POS. However, some people really like them. I would reccomend a Swami if you have the money. Also, raising it up on big jumps helps.

I think Traxxas says to check all the screws/nuts before driving.

Speed controller kept cutting off on lvc. Traxxas made good.
Rear stub axle carrier broke. Upgraded to RPM.

I was going to say, I did say. They are very tough out of the box. The xl-5 needs some mods, but not the VXL's. Only a RPM bumper and your good to go. Not because you need it, but because It's always nice to have.

I broke a shock cap after turning at a fast speed, it rolled and the top hit a tree.. couple days later I went into a curb and broke a caster block.. cant break anything right now, dang snow!

I think that was mainly drivers fault. I've never had that happen.

I know this is driver error but on my rusty vxl I have broken

Caster blocks (both)
Steering knuckles (both)
RPM bumper (cracked)
Shock tower (twice)
Bulkhead

I have also bent several king pins and a-arm pins.

I have also lost several of the hex pins inside the wheel due to wheels coming off. This problem was fixed with blue lock tite.

I just wish ALL the VXL's came with the Wheelie bar. As soon as you put over 4000mah in the VXL the front end is up and out. And if you're like me with the over gearing and 11.1v lipo you'll be on your lid every time. Love this buggy to death but, I have 2 problems...

1- the advertising was EH. I hate seeing 70+mph in HUGE print and then a small print chart with all the upgrades (pricey ones at that). Should have said.. 40+MPH OUT OF THE BOX, 70+ WITH OPTIONAL GEARING AND LIPO!

2- If you're gonna advertise 70+ mph... INCLUDE THE WHEELIE BAR!

I wasn't aware some didn't come with it... I just thought they all did.

Yeah the spur gear wasnt set right from the factory, that's why it stripped. I did the paper trick so now it's fine. My lhs gave me the axel pin and hex wheel adapter free when my wheel fell off, and I could care less about the cracked wheelie bar mount. I'm not going to be gentle with it.

Well just today I broke the right caster block, and my shock cap. It has broke almost everytime I've driven it. I do drive it hard though.

Sounds similar to my damage report..lol I've had this VXL for almost 2 weeks and out of the box, within 10 minutes, lost a front wheel....luckily found the nut and pin in the dirt. Learned to check them before driving. Blue locktite?

Then second time out, lost the left rear shock cap getting shock oil all over, including on/in the controller. The top of the shock is right over the controller. BAD
Refilled the shock and cleaned as much as I could off the surface and "figured" everything was fine.

Third time out, a few days ago, shock oil in the controller must have shorted/crossed signals and she stuck wide open into a curb. Took a hard hit and surprisingly only suffered a castor and steering block. Steering was unresponsive and motor would stay wide open except when turned left. Controller was erratic when I tested it also. I took the controller apart and cleaned everything real good with WD and compressed air. Seems to be fine now, but I still don't trust it. I called Traxxas and they said the shock oil must have caused crossed signals and cleaning it should get it back to normal. If not I'll send it back to them.
Think I'll upgrade to AL shocks and steering/castor blocks after that one.
Believe me.....I'm not complaining.....I'm a newbie to RC anything and this thing can take a beating in my opinion. I'm learning the ropes jumping, flipping, and rolling this truck more times then I can count in just a few hours I've had it out..

It can keep crashing, bashing, and breaking,....and I'll keep buying parts
Thank God there are plenty of Hobby Shops around here with stocked shelves and the parts are fairly cheap., I'm gonna need them.

I'm not sure if this counts, but..

I thought I could save money by buying the velineon system and putting it in an evader ext I had.. then the problems started. I've had to replace the entire transmission, as even with the clutch spinning almost freely, the velineon motor will destroy any evader idler or diff gear.. now everthing is metal and full ball bearing, which cost me about $55...

Looking back on it, I wish I'd been less frugal minded and bought the Stampede (didn't want the bandit or rustler as I already have enough buggies and stadium trucks). That way, if anything broke, I wouldn't have to blame myself for being so ignorant, hehe.
