RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
I loved the GPSidea so much... I did it. lol
I made about 4-5 runs up and down the street each time... I didn't want to overheat anything running WOT too many times.
I also swapped the stock 19t pinion DOWN to a 18t pinion to slow it down a bit...
Even with the GPS hanging on the nose, it still wanted to wheelie a little. lol
I will eventually do some runs in bone stock configuration... with 18 / 19 / 20 tooth pinions... and also with both 7.4 & 11.1 Li-po's
I expect it to get near 65-70mph with the 20T pinion and 11.1 Li-po's.
Here are the results:
With the 11.1v / 2100mah Eflite Li-po & 18T pinion: 53.8MPH
With the 7.4v / 5000mah Venom Li-po & 18T pinion: 47.6 MPH

Well today I've tested my new mamba 7700! on 16Tpinion and stock spur it's crazy faaaas (much more than 50mph ) maybe I'll post some movie later. But Ineed to gear down to 15T Ithink because motor after ride is hot.
Added photos of motor and the car after some dirty ride

Hi, will the mamba 7700 motor run on the stock Flux ESC, I'm thinking of upgrading my Brushless system in my Flux, not sure what to go with though

I'll fool around with it this week and get some more "baseline" numbers... I'd like to see what the stock motor, esc & 19t pinion will do on 7.4 volts... just to get an accurate "out of the box" MPH... then test it on 11.1 volts.... then try the 18t & 20t pinions for comparison.
I really need to find another place to top-end this thing... The street in front on my house only gives me about 100-200 yards of dragstrip to get up to speed... and it seems to get really narrow @ 50+mph.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
The only problem I have with this Novak unit is the junk fragile fan they put on the ESC.
I've just smoked a 2nd one.
All it takes is an eyelash sized piece of grass to jam it up and fry it.
I'm in the process of mounting a 40mm fan on it from Radio Shack.
The fan makes a huge difference in ESC temps... much more than the 20 degrees mentioned earlier. I was thrashing the heck out of my car and went through a whole 5000mah battery just ripping up a baseball diamond in the park down the street from my house. The esc never went over 120 degrees... and the motor stayed just as cool. I bought the Novak motor heatsink for it too, so I'm sure that helped some.
Once the fan jammed and fried, the esc went up to 200+ degrees.... so that said, a fan is a must on this combo.
The other problem I have... is keeping the front end on the ground. Even after flipping the rear arms to lengthen the wheelbase, it still wants to go over backwards. I'm only using the 7.4 Li-po's too.
Here's a pic of the fried Novak fan... and the Radio Shack fan I'm wire-tying to the esc. You can see the motor heatsink I installed too.

Well... I guess this is a byproduct of too much motor... lol
I just had a blowout in the driveway.
I was doing doughnuts in a few light puddles in my driveway... and BOOM, the RR tire exploded. It sounded like someone popped a paper bag.
Off to the hobbyshop again dangit...

You could try loosing the slipper clutch to control front end lift...but with that much power you might just melt the slipper.....

Extending the wheelbase did help a bunch... but I still 'gotta be really carefull...
I just came home with a set of rims/tires... figured I'd try something a little different. They didn't have the factory 6-spoke rims, so I had to settle for a pair of 5-spokes instead. These are a tad taller than the HPItires were...
Also a sidenote on the fan installation... What a difference it makes ! ESC and motor temps have not gone over 120-130 degrees. Prior to the fan install, the ESC was hitting 220-230 occasionally. The motor never seemed to get hot though.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Hi,
Just bought an e-firestorm flux and have a couple of questions before I go back and start reading some of this massive thread
When I got it out of the box, the spring on the rear left shock was loose - just rattling up and down - should it be pressed up against the top and bottom? The adjustable collar was in the same position on left/right, so I don't know if the spring is slightly shorter for some reason.
And if anyone can recommend a good bodyshell for this I'd be grateful. Can be either a great, ready painted one, or a clear one that I can get custom painted. Mine is the stock white flux one and its fine but I'd like something a bit more aggressive.

On mine you have to turn the collars down over half way before they even touch the springs....I run with alot of preload on mine...As for bodies you really only have a couple choices the stock one you can get in clear and paint it or ebay has lots of the stock painted ones....

My fronts are only about 1/4" down from the top of the threads. (soft)
Mine seems to be pretty well balanced like that...

I know your running the GTB, but what motor are you running to cause the tire to rip apart like that? 3.5r?
I notice you have plenty of tread left on those tires, so you cant be burning rubber too bad. lol

Yes he is running a 3.5 on 3s i think....

I've only had the car week...and the weather here has been pretty crappy... hence the lack of tire wear.
I think the freewheeling at extreme RPM's during a doughnut is what caused it to blow apart.
I'm just glad it didn't rip-up the body or break a rod end or control arm. I got off the throttle pretty quick. That flap of rubber could have done some serious "out of balance" related damage if I stayed on the trigger another couple seconds.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Hello and welcome....Yes the larger the pinion the faster it will go...but it will decrease the torque and the motor and esc will run hotter.that being said i am running a 21t pinion on mine right now,but thats for onroad only as it would overheat offroad...for offroad i go down to a 18t pinion...The best way to gear your truck is with a temp gauge.Just check temps every few minutes and try to keep them under 160f .

Hi guys,
I don't have a HPIFirestorm Flux yet, but am planning to order one. I also need a charger and batteries (2s lipo).
What is the size of the battery compartment so I can make sure everything will fit when it arrives?
Thanks.
