well, better late than never, so they say, so the Cayenne finally got a run today, as you can see the private car park i visited has a few varied surfaces, light pebbles, large pebbles and grass.. almost perfect terrain for the Cayenne.

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
the Cayenne is a very fun vehicle, taking some big hits and very rarely rolling, i also feel its more capable than my TA-02 and CC-01, having slightly more clearance than the TA-02, yet not rolling at every corner like the CC-01, i did suffer some cogging, but that seemed to go after a few passes, unlike the previous two cars i mentioned, this will not be getting sold [8D]
however i did have a couple of issues.. the right front dog bone kept popping out, so i used an o-ring in the outdrive, and as with the CC-01, i lost one of the screws holding the bottom of the damper in..
i also switched the steering links to the top of the front uprights as i felt the links were at an awkward angle (even with the suspension un-compressed) another benefit is the links are higher off the ground and a bit more protected.
i shot a video, but with a lack of options to mount the camera off the ground, its hard to get a good perspective on the speed of this vehicle, i would guess about 20 mph, but bear in mind its on the second smallest pinion (the motor/ESC weren't even warm..) and i do have the speed tuned gear-set if i feel the need... if the tracking seems a bit random, the two right tyres kept coming unglued.. [X(]

if they are made from the same clear plastic as my M-03R ones were, be careful, they break very easily

Yeah, but you are not supposed to crash an on-road car.... (joke)

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
took the Cayenne out again today and noticed that two of my stick packs only seem to last a few minutes and they are 3600 and 4200... fingers crossed its because they have not seen use in a while..
had a few crazy flips/crashes but the Cayenne shrugged them off, until i noticed a wheel was badly buckled (which would be a pain as the rims are quite pricey and you gotta factor in a tyre as well..) luckily it was only the axle!
better order aome more spares.. just in case..

get one man! the only thing thats annoying is that spare bodies are near impossible to find, as its quite a rare chassis (only a handful of models were made on the DF-01 platform) and of them, only the Cayenne is recent.
decided to switch the step screw/washer setup for the ball connector on the lower shocks mounts, which eliminates any 'slop' and should stop me losing step screws as they work themselves loose... [8D]

stripped the Cayenne completely today, it was caked in mud and needed a good wash!
all the metal parts are soaking in WD-40 and all the gears/shock parts are degreasing..
i will make a couple of changes to it when its rebuilt, the Mamba Sidewinder ESC will go in a sealed Futaba plastic servo box, and the diffs are being switched to bevel units.

Nice man! Do you have the rear diff locked? Or?
It seems to oversteer quite a bit (fun!), more so than my T-Egg in the snow.. maybe it is because you are generating more speed.. (my T-Egg = silvercan) Or maybe it is the tires...

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
I just bought a DF-01 and am looking at getting a Tamiya BZ motor for it. It says that you should have a gear ratio between 9:1 and 11:1. I think I read somewhere that the gear raio in the DF-01 is 11.27:1. Is this right, and if so, is that ok?
If not, what do I need to get to make it ok?
Thanks

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
Hey guys, so I thought I'd give you an update on my DF-01. I now have a BZ motor and No limit ESC. Just ordered some bearings. I made a fan mount and put it in the DF-01, it works very well. I just bought some new wheels and tyres. They are 3Racing (WH-15/18) intended for a Kyosho ZX-5 or DF-03, but they fit perfectly on the DF-01 (a tiny amount of body modification had to be done). They are a bigger diameter wheel and I am really happy with them, there is a lot more ground clearance and obstacles that the car used to get caught on, it glides straight over now. The only problem is it rolls a bit now, but thats not a real big problem.
Here's some pics of the wheels, the new fan and a Skid/Protective plate that i put underneath the chassis to give the motor a bit more protection.
