NItro rustler mid motor electric conversion w/pics.
Hey,
I wanted a truck to run in mod truck, I had a vxl system sitting in my pede. SO this is what I did. Im using the vxl in the pede trans, which is backwards, making it mid motor. I switched two of the motor wires so it spins the right way. the bolt pattern works perfect on the nitro rustler chassis. I am puttingthe batteries on the plastic part, wher the gas tank and reciever were. It should handle decently, being mid motor. It is using the pede rear arms and links.

Yea, and i think it will handle the power a lot better. I was looking for a motor mount for an electric motor for it, but never found it. so i started looking at the transmissions and the bolt patterns were the same so it bolted right on. really happy with it so far.

Good job on the conversion. I would ditch the zip ties and fabricate a battery holder with clips for ease of use.

Thanks for all the compliments. I would get some vids, but I havent been able to run it because i broke an out put yoke right before I converted it. I should be able to get another output yoke tomorrow after i get off work.
About the battery where it is, i am trying to distribute the weight as best i can. I also want it up there so the front tires have more traction, and it will wheelie less too. I am acutally gonna try to race this thing, i am taking it to ocrc.

it will be able to but the power down better as a rear motor. that setup will yeld little rear traction.

I think it will be enough. If its not, its really easy to just flip the transmission around. I have yet to run it, so we'll see.

I want t see this run at ocrc. It should get thry the high speed corners good but it will be heavy when jumping. If it was a lipo get 1 ouce weights and put weights on to your liking. I dont think ocrc races mod truck.

about it heavy when jumping,,, it is on 3s lipo.... its a 5400mah 20c... it actually isnt very heavy, but geared 19/86 with 2.2 tires, it should be fine. I have the battery there so that the front tires wont push so much, and get good traction. but yea, its going to ocrc [>:]

Yea, oh well at least you still have your normal rustler. Just run that. what motor are you gonna use in the converted rustler?
Ill be back later gotta go do homework

Nice rustler conversion. I have to admit that I saw yours and liked it so much that I decided to try that on one of my electric rustlers and I would say it came out pretty good and it was easy but I haven't driven it yet. What do you think?

RE: NItro rustler mid motor electric conversion w/pics.
motors were originally put behind the rear wheels to maximize rear traction with old school tires.
Now traction really isn't a problem and having the weight more forward shoudl add some steering and take a away the tendency of the rear end wanting to swap places with the front in a turn.
Not a bad idea at all. Brian Kinwald is messing with this idea with his XFactory team losi xxxt

Nik., do you run at ocrc?
BK isnt just messing with it, xfactory is actually making the x-60 truck with the mid motor. I heard it will give a little less rear traction but will take turns better. It will be a conversion kit for the AE T4 if I remeber correctly.

I like this idea alot. I have always wondered why on most electric vehicles the gearbox and motor was hanging very exposed behind the rear wheels. With high power brushless systems this also helps the vehicle wheelie more. I will be following this thread as I would like to know the turnout. I drag race my rustler and having the motor and gearbox more centrally located should help keep the front end down.
